England all-rounder Will Jacks is scheduled to arrive in India later this week to join the Mumbai Indians squad for the ongoing IPL 2026. His late arrival follows a grueling international schedule that forced him to miss the franchise's first four matches of the IPL 2026 season. After a demanding winter that included four Test appearances during The Ashes and a white-ball tour of Sri Lanka, Jacks opted for a brief period of rest before transitioning into the domestic circuit.
The 27-year-old is joining the tournament in peak form, having recently served as a cornerstone of England’s T20 World Cup campaign. During the tournament, he solidified his reputation as an elite multidimensional talent, amassing 226 runs and claiming nine wickets to help propel England to the semi-finals. His ability to impact the game with both bat and ball is expected to provide much-needed versatility to the Mumbai lineup.

We're expecting Will Jacks very soon: MI batting coach Kieron Pollard
Jacks' integration comes at a high-stakes moment for the five-time champions, who have struggled to find their rhythm this season. Currently languishing in the bottom half of the table with only one victory in four games, the Mumbai Indians are under mounting pressure. This was further intensified by a recent heavy defeat at the Wankhede Stadium, where the team failed to chase down a massive target of 241 against Royal Challengers Bengaluru, exposing significant concerns regarding their bowling execution and tactical decisions.
Providing clarity on the situation, Mumbai Indians batting coach Kieron Pollard confirmed that the all-rounder is expected to link up with his teammates shortly. Pollard also took the opportunity to address ongoing speculation regarding Jacks' physical condition, reassuring fans and stakeholders about his fitness ahead of the business end of the season.
"We're expecting Will Jacks very soon. As you alluded to, fitness issues, to my knowledge, I don't know anything about that. We are a team made up of over 20 members. And at this point, he's not here. But he will be here soon," Pollard said at the pre-match press conference.
Pollard highlighted that Will Jacks' dual-threat capabilities could be the key to restoring the balance that has eluded the Mumbai Indians in the early stages of the season. As an effective contributor with both bat and ball, Jacks provides much-needed tactical flexibility. His inclusion is expected to be particularly vital during the middle overs, a phase where the team has frequently struggled to maintain control and stem the flow of runs.
MI's disappointing campaign
Despite the anticipated arrival of the English all-rounder, much of the public scrutiny remains fixed on captain Hardik Pandya. Although he is coming off a highly successful stint in India’s T20 World Cup-winning campaign, his on-field leadership and tactical choices for Mumbai have been called into question. The team's inconsistent performances have led many to wonder why a squad with such immense depth and veteran experience has found it difficult to execute a cohesive game plan.
As the tournament enters a high-stakes period, Mumbai is gearing up for a critical encounter against the Shreyas Iyer-led Punjab Kings. This will be followed closely by another major clash against Royal Challengers Bengaluru.
