A bomb attack threat in middle of Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) has rocked the IPL 2025. During the match between KKR and CSK at Kolkata's Eden Gardens on May 7, the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) received a bomb threat via email which has put the IPL 2025 security on high alert. This threatening message, originating from an unidentified email address, was discovered in the official CAB email account while the match was in progress.
Bomb blast threat rocks KKR vs CSK IPL 2025 clash
Authorities have initiated an investigation into the matter, with the police actively looking into the source and credibility of the threat. In response, security measures at the Eden Gardens stadium have been significantly усилены to ensure the safety of everyone present. Notably, this match was the first IPL game to be held following Operation Sindhoor, the precision strikes conducted by India in retaliation for the terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, which also occurred on May 7th of the previous month.
On the same day as the bomb threat, Wednesday, May 7, India carried out strikes on nine terror camps in Pakistan with links to Jaish-e-Mohammed, Lashkar-e-Taiba, and Hizbul Mujahideen. The Indian government has explicitly stated that the targeted sites were exclusively non-military and emphasized that the 'Operation Sindoor' was measured, focused, and non-escalatory in its execution.
"India has demonstrated considerable restraint in the selection of targets and method of execution," read an official statement.
In a gesture of respect and solidarity, the players from both the Chennai Super Kings and the Kolkata Knight Riders, along with representatives from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), paid tribute to the Indian armed forces' 'Operation Sindhoor' prior to the start of the match. As a mark of honor, the national anthem was played at the Eden Gardens stadium before the game began, with the players standing in a line near the boundary.
