CSK managing director Kasi Viswanathan wants BCCI to look into the matter.

Five-time Indian Premier League (IPL) winners Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have complained to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) over DJ's choice of song and comments made in the clash against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) at M Chinnaswamy Stadium. In the April 5 clash, CSK alleged that the track 'Dosa idli, sambar, chutney, chutney' was not in good taste, a song that led to memes highlighting South Indian stereotypes.

“We have received a complaint from CSK and are looking into it,” a top IPL official confirmed to the Indian Express.

The IPL governing council is looking to the batter. CSK CEO and managing director Kasi Viswanathan said that supporting the home team is usual for DJs but certain comments against the opposition are unacceptable.

“The DJs are usually around to support the home team. But at the Chinnaswamy Stadium, it was different. Certain comments were made against our players. Considering it, we have written to the BCCI to have a look into it,” Viswanathan told the English daily.

When CSK played the same song to troll Jitesh

This is not the first time the popular song by Gana Appu has been played during CSK-RCB clash. Last year, when Jitesh Sharma was dismissed, the song was played. Earlier, RCB had posted a clip of the wicketkeeper-batter singing the song. Following the incident, CSK management instructed the DJ to not make comments or use such songs against the opposition.

“After that incident, there hasn’t been any repeat of it. The DJ isn’t supposed to make any comment on the opposition players. Moreover, we are fortunate to have a lovely fanbase that cheers us in numbers,” Viswanathan said.

DJ’s comments incited fan war?

Not just the song, DJ made certain comments which were derogatory and did not sit well with CSK management.

“They are not there to undermine the rivals or insult them,” a CSK official said.

After the Southern Derby, there was also a clash between fans where the police had to intervene. The rivalry between the two teams has been reignited after RCB beat CSK in IPL 2024, knocking them out of the playoffs race. In the April 5 clash, CSK were outclassed by RCB in a high-scoring game.
