Former India cricketer Mohammad Kaif slams Rohit Sharma's critics after the Mumbai Indians (MI) star smashed his third fifty in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. The former MI captain faced a lot of criticism after he failed to perform during the initial matches of the tournament. He managed to score just 82 runs in the first six games he played.
However, Rohit made his comeback against Chennai Super Kings and scored 293 runs in ten outings of the tournament with a high score of 76 not out.
Kaif who was also featured for the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) recalled that this is not the first time Rohit has silenced his doubters with his performances. The cricketer-turned-expert highlighted the India ODI and Test captain's match-winning ability.
"I have been seeing for so many years that people are after him, wanting to drop him. How many times have we seen this in Rohit Sharma's career, where it seems as if this could be his last match, and he comes and scores 60-70. Whenever he scores runs, he will be the Player of the Match because he scores very quickly," Kaif said on his YouTube channel.
"This is the story of every year. The pressure is at its peak for him. It seems like one more failure will get him dropped, and the cricket pundits are after him. He has three fifties in four matches. He made a comeback with such a bang, indicating that he shouldn't be written off. He always answers with his bat," Kaif added.
Rohit's performance also played a huge role in MI's IPL 2025 campaign. After getting a bad start, the five-time champions made a comeback in the IPL 2025 with six consecutive wins. MI are currently on number one in the points table with seven wins in the 11 outings of the tournament. MI will now face Gujarat Titans on May 6 at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
