Gujarat Titans have announced Sri Lankan all-rounder Dasun Shanaka as an injury replacement for the remainder of the IPL 2025 season. Shanaka steps in as injured Glenn Phillips' replacement, who had to return to his home country earlier in the tournament due to a groin injury that prematurely ended his IPL 2025 campaign.
GT hire Dasun Shanaka as Glenn Phillips' replacement
Glenn Phillips was acquired by Gujarat Titans at his base price of Rs 2 Crore during the IPL 2025 mega auction. However, the New Zealand cricketer unfortunately did not get an opportunity to feature in any of the team's matches before sustaining the season-ending injury.
Former Sri Lanka captain Dasun Shanaka, an experienced campaigner who has represented Sri Lanka in 102 T20 international matches, is making a return to GT, having previously been part of their squad in the 2023 season. During that stint, the all-rounder featured in just three games for the team. He rejoins the Titans for his base price of INR 75 Lakh.
"Gujarat Titans (GT) have picked Sri Lanka's Dasun Shanaka as a replacement for the injured Glenn Phillips for the remainder of the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. Dasun Shanaka, an all-rounder, has scored 1456 runs in 102 T20Is for Sri Lanka along with 33 T20I wickets to his name. He has also played 71 ODIs and 6 Tests for Sri Lanka. He was previously part of GT in 2023 and played 3 matches. The all-rounder will join GT for INR 75 Lakh," IPL's statement read.
Dasun Shanaka's recent cricketing endeavors include his successful participation in the International League T20, where he was a key member of the Dubai Capitals team that clinched the championship title. Following his stint in the ILT20, the versatile all-rounder showcased his skills in Sri Lanka's domestic circuit, representing Dambulla in a match of the National Super League 4-day tournament and also featuring for Sinhalese Sports Club in another match of the Major League Tournament.

This signing marks Shanaka's second association with GT franchise, as he was also part of the team that emerged victorious in the 2022 IPL edition, representing them during the 2023 season. Examining Shanaka's recent performances, he had a commendable outing in the ILT20, accumulating 164 runs across 10 innings at a solid average of 27. Moreover, he contributed with the ball, picking up four wickets in the same league.
Talking about GT's performance in the ongoing IPL 2025, they are strongly placed at the second spot in the points table. In a total of six matches, GT have won four of them, collecting eight crucial points. GT will next face Delhi Capitals on April 19 at the Narendra Modi stadium.
