Gujarat Titans appoint former RCB opener with 13 IPL fifties as assistant and batting coach ahead of IPL 2025 mega auction

Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022-winners Gujarat Titans (GT) on November 13 announced the appointment of former India wicketkeeper-batter Parthiv Patel as their new assistant and batting coach. The announcement comes more than a week ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction. 

"With a distinguished 17-year career as a former Indian wicketkeeper-batter, Parthiv brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to the team," GT said in a media release.

 

 

 

"As the Titans prepare for the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) season, Parthiv's insights into batting techniques and strategies will play a crucial role in enhancing the players' skills. Parthiv, who is known for his sharp cricketing acumen and ability to mentor young talent, will strengthen the coaching staff and contribute to player development and performance."

 

 

Parthiv's IPL career

Parthiv made his IPL debut for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) against Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings) in the inaugural edition of the IPL. He made his last IPL appearance for Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the 2019 edition.

The Ahmedabad-born cricketer has represented now-defunct Deccan Chargers and Kochi Tuskers Kerala, SRH and Mumbai Indians (MI) as well. Overall, the 39-year-old has scored 2,848 runs from 139 IPL games at an average of 22.60 including 13 half-centuries.

GT's retentions and major choices for RTM

Ahead of the mega auction, GT retained five players - Afghanistan's Rashid Khan (Rs 18 crore), captain Shubman Gill (Rs 16.50 crore), Sai Sudharsan (Rs 8.50 crore), uncapped Rahul Tewatia (Rs 4 crore) and Shahrukh Khan (Rs 4 crore). GT have Rs 69 crore left in the purse for the mega auction. They can exercise one Right to Match (RTM) card. The prominent players who they can retain via RTM card are Mohammed Shami or David Miller.

The IPL 2025 mega auction will take place on November 24 and 25 in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
