The defending champion Kolkata Knight Riders will play Royal Challengers Bengaluru at the Eden Gardens on March 22 to kick off the 2025 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) season. Numerous players have withdrawn from the competition before it even started, citing personal or injury-related reasons. Here is the list of players who pulled out of IPL 2025 before the beginning of the cash-rich league.

1. Harry Brook - Delhi Capitals

England batter Brook withdrew from IPL 2025 to focus on his obligations to the national team. Since the league's governing council had established a rule that prohibited a player from participating in the league for two seasons if they were unavailable for reasons other than injury, he was subsequently barred from the competition for two years. After missing the 2024 IPL season, the middle-order hitter was acquired by the Delhi Capitals for Rs. 6.25 crore. There has been no replacement announced for the batter yet.

2. Brydon Carse - Sunrisers Hyderabad

After suffering a toe injury during England's ICC Champions Trophy 2025 match against Australia, Carse was ruled out for the forthcoming season. Sunrisers Hyderabad purchased the all-round player in the auction last year for Rs. 1 crore, but he will not be able to fulfil his obligations. Wiaan Mulder, a South African who costs Rs. 75 lakh to join the team, has taken the 29-year-old's place.

3. Lizaad Williams - Mumbai Indians

Due to an injury, the South African fast bowler will not play in the forthcoming IPL season. The Mumbai Indians purchased him at auction for Rs. 75 lakh, while his countryman Corbin Bosch, a former net bowler for the Rajasthan Royals, has taken his spot in the team.

Replacement: Corbin Bosch

4. Allah Ghaznafar - Mumbai Indians

Before the ICC Champions Trophy, the Afghan leg-spinner had an injury that would prevent him from playing in the 2025 Indian Premier League. The Mumbai Indians purchased him at auction for Rs. 4.80 crore, and fellow Afghan Mujeeb Ur Rahman, who will cost Rs. 2 crore to join the team, will take his position. Off-spinner Mujeeb has played for Sunrisers Hyderabad and Punjab Kings in 19 IPL games between 2018 and 2021.

Replacement: Mujeeb Ur Rahman

5. Umran Malik - Kolkata Knight Riders

A week before the season began, Indian bowler Umran Malik sustained an injury that would prevent him from playing in the 2025 Indian Premier League. For Rs. 75 lakh, the Kolkata Knight Riders selected Umran. The Sunrisers Hyderabad right-arm quick only participated in one IPL 2024 match.

Replacement: Chetan Sakariya
