Big players like Shardul Thakur, Prithvi Shaw, David Warner went unsold in IPL 2025 mega auction

However, the unsold player can still participate in the upcoming IPL season

The IPL 2025 mega auction was a historic event, witnessing a massive spending spree by the 10 franchises as they sought to bolster their squads for the upcoming season of the glitzy league.

Unsold players can still participate in IPL 2025?

Over the course of two days, a total of 182 players were sold for a staggering Rs. 639.15 crore. The auction saw several record-breaking deals, with Rishabh Pant and Shreyas Iyer becoming the most expensive buys in IPL history. Lucknow Super Giants secured Pant's services for a whopping Rs. 27 crore, while Punjab Kings acquired Shreyas Iyer for Rs. 20 crore. Kolkata Knight Riders also broke bank in the IPL 2025 auction, which was held on November 24 and 25 in Jeddah, where 577 players went under the hammer, as they re-signined Venkatesh Iyer for a hefty amount of Rs. 23.75 crore.

While the IPL Mega Auction witnessed record-breaking deals and big-money signings, it also brought disappointment for many players who went unsold. Amongst the big names, were David Warner, Steve Smith, and Kane Williamson, who are considered among the best overseas players in the IPL, failed to attract any bids. Similarly, several top Indian players, including Prithvi Shaw, Sarfaraz Khan, Shardul Thakur, Mayank Agarwal, and Umesh Yadav, were also left without contracts.

While the IPL Mega Auction has concluded, the door is not entirely closed for unsold players. There's a possibility that they could still be picked up as injury replacements for current squad members.

If a player from any team gets injured, the franchise can name a replacement from the pool of unsold players. However, there's a condition: the replacement player's base price at the auction must be lower than the injured player's. For instance, David Warner could only be considered as a replacement if the injured player was bought for more than Rs. 2 crore.
