Gujarat Titans (GT) all-rounder Washington Sundar made a huge error in judgement when he dropped Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) opener Virat Kohli’s catch at mid-on. Kohli would’ve been out for a golden duck but Sundar couldn’t hold on to the ball. While the mistake turned out to be expensive as Kohli scored 81, former West Indies Ian Bishop defended the all-rounder. However, he wants Sundar to improve his level of fielding as he has been missing opportunities.
"No, I see that differently. We have all dropped catches. You don't pick and choose which ones you drop. But what I would ask Washy is that your level of fielding has got to go up. He's a young guy, athletic enough," said Bishop on ESPNcricinfo 'TimeOut'.
"For too long, I have been seeing missed opportunities with him. So I would ask him to put a little more work in that so he becomes an asset in the field in addition to all the other things," he added.
Kohli went on to score 81 runs from 44 deliveries. He took RCB to doorstep of victory in the run chase of 206. Kohli was also adjudged ‘Player of the match’ as she shared a game-changing partnership with half-centurion Devdutt Padikkal.
Earlier, Sundar had contributed with a 12-ball 19. However, he could not score boundaries from overs 17 to 19 which cost GT as well. GT had a chance to post 220-230 but they could not make use of the platform set with the help of Sai Sudharsan's 58-ball century.
