Mumbai Indians (MI) take on Chennai Super Kings (CSK) as Hardik Pandya won the toss and elected to bowl first in their Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 clash at the Wankhede stadium on April 20.

Mumbai didn't tinker with their playing XI as they fielded the same team which they played against SRH. Meanwhile, 17-year-old Ayush Mhatre made his IPL debut for CSK as he walked into their playing XI in place of Rahul Tripathi.

What did the captains say after the toss?

After winning the toss, MI captain Hardik Pandya, said:

"We are gonna bowl first. It looks like a very good wicket. Same wicket we played against RCB. That gives us a chance to look at the wicket, identify our plans. It has a good covering of grass and will be a good batting wicket. Just executing our plans and keep doing what's working for us. That's exciting, we have not played to our potential and gives us an opportunity every game to play to our potential. The man behind me everyone knows how exciting when he comes, CSK v MI is always exciting. Same team."

Meanwhile, CSK skipper MS Dhoni, after losing the toss, said:

"We were looking to bowl first. The main reason is because dew has already started to set in. We are the bottom most team in the table, looking too far ahead will not help us, take one game at a time and keep pushing. We have to play bold cricket but at the same time the batters have to realise what your strengths are, same with the bowlers - that's what we have been telling the departments. The fielding is one area where we haven't taken good catches, coming to the other two departments - we need partnerships while batting or bowling."

Pitch Report

"We are back on pitch number 8. The dimensions are quite signficant - 60 meters on one side with a little breeze as well, 66 away to the Eastern side and 73 meters down town. 430 runs were produced last time a game was played on this pitch. It looks a little bit drier compared to what we saw on Thursday night, very similar grass covering in the middle of the wicket but these ends (near the fullish length) here are particularly drier. You might see little more spin. I thought it was a tiny bit tacky for the team batting first the other night, I don't think that is going to be the case today. It is a really good wicket. The perception here is you are going to get dew, so I would imagine both teams will look to chase. It is going to be a high-scoring pitch. Runs on the board are okay but dew does come in while batting second," Simon Doull and Michael Clarke analysed the pitch

Head-to-Head record

CSK and MI have locked horns with each other 38 times in IPL so far. While CSK have notched 18 wins, MI have emerged victorious on 20 occasion.
