The IPL 2025 clash between RCB and KKR was abandoned due to persistent rain

Both the teams were awarded one point each after the frustrating washout

The resumption of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 faced further disruption as the match between Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium was abandoned due to continuous heavy rain. With both teams awarded a single point each, defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders were officially eliminated from playoff contention. Meanwhile, Royal Challengers Bengaluru ascended to the top position in the league table, now holding 17 points.

Prior to this rain-affected encounter, the last match played in the league featured Punjab Kings against Delhi Capitals in Dharamsala. This match was abandoned due to security concerns arising from heightened India-Pakistan tensions. Subsequently, the league was suspended for a week starting, prompting numerous overseas players to return to their home countries.

As tensions between India and Pakistan de-escalated, culminating in a ceasefire agreement, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) decided to resume the IPL across six different venues. The match between RCB and KKR was intended to mark this fresh start, but unfortunately, inclement weather played spoilsport.

Following the washout against Kolkata Knight Riders, Royal Challengers Bengaluru climbed to the summit of the IPL 2025 standings. On the other hand, Knight Riders' acquisition of a single point leaves them in sixth place and mathematically unable to secure a spot in the Playoffs. Gujarat Titans, Punjab Kings, Mumbai Indians currently occupy the remaining positions within the top four as league heads into a double-header May 18.

This is how the IPL 2025 points table looks like:
