The possibility of Bihar getting its own Indian Premier League franchise received a major boost after Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary publicly backed industrialist Anil Agarwal’s proposal to introduce an IPL team from the state.
Agarwal had recently expressed his wish to see Bihar represented in the IPL, pointing towards the growing cricketing talent emerging from the state. His statement quickly sparked massive discussion among fans, and now the Bihar government has also shown support for the idea.
Samrat Choudhary backs Anil Agarwal’s Bihar IPL proposal
Reacting to Agarwal’s proposal, Samrat Choudhary stated that the Bihar government is already working towards improving cricket infrastructure and opportunities in the state.
"I completely agree with your point," Choudhary wrote while replying to Agarwal’s post.
"For the ‘emotion’ of cricket in Bihar, the government is working in ‘mission’ mode with a clear ‘vision.’ With your support, a positive decision regarding Bihar’s cricket team will certainly be taken," he added.
The response from the Bihar Deputy CM has now intensified conversations around the possibility of the IPL expanding further in the coming years.
Earlier, Anil Agarwal had questioned why Bihar still does not have an IPL franchise despite producing several talented cricketers over the years.
The Vedanta Group chairman highlighted names like Ishan Kishan, Vaibhav Suryavanshi and Sakib Hussain while advocating for Bihar’s representation in the league.
Bihar’s growing cricket talent continues to impress
Bihar has rapidly emerged as one of the strongest talent-producing regions in Indian cricket in recent years.
Ishan Kishan, who was born in Patna, became one of India’s most explosive wicketkeeper-batters and also holds the record for the fastest ODI double century in terms of balls faced.
Meanwhile, teenage sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi has become one of the biggest stars of IPL 2026 after producing sensational performances for Rajasthan Royals.
Young pacer Sakib Hussain has also impressed many with his performances and is considered another exciting prospect from Bihar.
Only four years ago, the IPL expanded from eight to 10 teams with the addition of Lucknow Super Giants and Gujarat Titans.
Now, with growing support from both industrialists and political leaders, talks surrounding a future Bihar-based IPL franchise have gained fresh momentum.
