Shubman Gill fined Rs 12 lakh for slow over-rate vs DC.

Gujarat Titans captain Shubman Gill has become the latest player to face action from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) after being fined Rs 12 lakh for a slow over-rate.

Gill breached Article 2.22 of the IPL Code of Conduct

The penalty came even though GT registered their first win of the season against Delhi Capitals on Wednesday. The issue was that the team failed to complete their overs on time during the match at the Arun Jaitley Stadium.

As per the rules, this counts as a breach of Article 2.22 of the IPL Code of Conduct. Since it was GT’s first such offence this season, Gill has only been given a fine.

GT are not the only side to face this problem. Punjab Kings captain Shreyas Iyer has already been fined twice this season for similar over-rate issues. However, under the updated rules this year, even a third offence will not lead to a match ban, as it used to.

Abhishek Sharma fined

In another incident, Sunrisers Hyderabad opener Abhishek Sharma was fined 25 per cent of his match fee and also received a demerit point for his behaviour during a game against Kolkata Knight Riders. While the IPL did not clearly state the reason, it is believed to be linked to his apparent disagreement after being given out on a close catch off Varun Chakaravarthy.

Despite the fine, Gill will be more focused on the team’s win. He led from the front with a solid 70 off 45 balls, helping GT post 210/4 after being put in to bat.

In reply, DC fought hard. KL Rahul scored a brilliant 92, while David Miller added an unbeaten 41 to keep the chase alive till the end. But GT held their nerve to pull off a dramatic one-run victory. GT will now take on Lucknow Super Giants in their next match on Sunday.
