Gujarat Titans (GT)'s experienced all-rounder Jason Holder has reignited discussions around his red-ball future after delivering impactful performances in IPL 2026. The West Indies star, who has been instrumental in GT’s recent winning run, made it clear that his journey in Test cricket is far from over.

Jason Holder's test cricket aspirations

Holder played a crucial role in GT’s victory over Punjab Kings (PBKS), returning impressive figures of four wickets for 24 runs. His disciplined approach, especially hitting consistent lengths under pressure, reflected the experience gained from years of playing the longest format.

Despite focusing primarily on T20 cricket over the past year, Holder admitted that his aspirations in Test cricket remain intact.

“Fair to say that, last year and a half I have only played T20 cricket, haven’t played Test cricket. I would love to still play some Test-match cricket,” he said. “I haven’t yet closed that chapter.”

The statement underscores Jason Holder’s enduring passion for Test cricket, even as franchise leagues continue to dominate the modern game.

Strong numbers & recent form strengthen comeback case

Holder’s credentials in red-ball cricket remain significant. Having represented West Indies in 69 Tests, the all-rounder has picked up 162 wickets while scoring 3073 runs at an average of 29.83, including three centuries and 14 fifties. His leadership stint as Test captain between 2015 and 2020 further highlights his importance in the format.

While his last Test appearance came in August 2024 against South Africa, and his most recent first-class outing was in March 2025 for Barbados, Holder’s current IPL form suggests he still possesses the skill set required for the longest format.

In IPL 2026, Holder has taken seven wickets in four matches at an economy rate of 6.94, contributing significantly to Gujarat Titans’ resurgence. Although his batting returns have been modest so far, his overall impact with the ball has been undeniable.

Jason Holder also acknowledged his disappointment at not finishing games with the bat in recent matches.
