Amid a season full of injury concerns, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have finally received some boost after an underwhelming start to the IPL 2026 season, managing only two wins in first six games. However, in the recent games it was visible that CSK players are slowly getting back to form.
Big boos for Chennai Super Kings
Ahead of their clash against Mumbai Indians (MI) on April 23 at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, Australian fast-bowler Spencer Johnson has joined the squad as Nathan Ellis' injury replacement.

The left-arm pacer missed CSK's first games because of a back injury and was working to achieve full fitness. Now Johnson himself confirmed his arrival in Chennai with an Instagram story from his official handle, as he visited 7Padel which is owned by former India captain MS Dhoni.
The Ruturaj Gaikwad-led side will aim to capitalize on Spencer Johnson's abilities by including him in the playing line-up against Mumbai Indians. The left-arm pacer could be useful in Mumbai's bouncy track and if everything goes well then he could be a big asset for CSK in the IPL 2026.
Another injury blow for CSK
Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have suffered 'a big, big loss' as described by their batting coach Michael Hussey in the post-match presentation. CSK's leading run-scorer in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026, Ayush Mhatre has been ruled out of the tournament.
Mhatre suffered a left hamstring injury while batting in the run chase against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on April 18. He will need 6-12 weeks to complete his rehabilitation.
Mhatre's numbers in IPL 2026
From six innings, Mhatre scored 201 runs at an average of 33.50, including two half-centuries. His strike rate was 177.83. Mhatre took the no.3 role after skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad promoted himself to open alongside wicketkeeper-batter Sanju Samson.
