Gujarat Titans' star opener Jos Buttler notched a towering feat during the IPL 2026 match against Delhi Capitals (DC) at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on April 8.
Jos Buttler becomes six-hitting machine in T20s
Buttler became the first England batter to smash 600 sixes in T20 cricket. Entering the match against DC, level with Alex Hales, Buttler delivered a vintage performance to claim the record for himself. With this milestone, he joins an elite list, becoming only the fifth player in history to reach the 600-six mark, trailing only Caribbean icons Chris Gayle, Kieron Pollard, Andre Russell, and Nicholas Pooran.
This record-breaking feat serves as a much-needed resurgence for the 35-year-old, who has struggled for form since the 2026 T20 World Cup. Buttler’s recent lean patch was punctuated by a disappointing World Cup exit at the hands of India in the semi-finals, and those struggles appeared to follow him into the early stages of the IPL. However, the game against Delhi signaled a return to his explosive best, highlighted by a dominant powerplay where he cleared the ropes five times.

Despite the early loss of his opening partner, Sai Sudharsan, Buttler refused to retreat into a defensive shell. Maintaining the aggressive "ultra-intent" brand of cricket that has defined his career, the former England captain kept the pressure firmly on the DC bowling attack. His defiant knock not only secured a personal milestone but also provided the Gujarat Titans with the aggressive momentum they had been missing at the top of the order.
Jos Buttler runs riot with robust fifty
Buttler maintained his explosive momentum beyond the powerplay, reaching a half-century in just 24 deliveries. This marked his 25th fifty in IPL history, signaling a triumphant return to form for the veteran opener. However, his charge was halted in the eighth over by Kuldeep Yadav; the left-arm spinner outmaneuvered Buttler with a delivery that stayed low and slow, leaving the batter visibly deceived and bringing his high-impact innings to an end. Buttler's innings was cut short when he was at 52 off 27 balls.
After Buttler, Shubman Gill played a captain's knock and cracked a solid 45-ball 70 to help GT post a massive total of 210/4. Gill found a perfect ally in Washington Sundar, who also smashed a brilliant 32-ball 55.
