PBKS devasted LSG by 54 runs to remain unbeaten in the ongoing IPL 2026

The monstrous target of 255 was too much for LSG, who were eventually limited to for 200/5

Punjab Kings (PBKS) extended their impressive winning streak by thrashing Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) with a commanding 54-run win at the New PCA stadium on April 19. By clinching their fifth win of the season, Shreyas Iyer-led side continued their stay at the top of the IPL 2026 points table.

PBKS annihilate LSG by 54 runs

Batting first PBSK rode rollicking knocks from Priyansh Arya (93) and Cooper Connolly (87) to post a mammoth total of 245/7. In reply, LSG ran out of steam in the high-scoring chase and were limited to 200/5 to suffer their fourth defeat in the ongoing season.

LSG run out of steam in 255-run chase

Despite a reasonably strong start that yielded 61 runs during the Powerplay, LSG were never truly in contention to chase down the massive target. They struggled to keep up with the required run rate, ultimately finishing their innings at 200 for five, a score that failed to match the sheer dominance displayed by their opponents earlier in the match.

Individual contributions from skipper Rishabh Pant, who scored 43 off 23 balls, and Mitchell Marsh, who added 40 off 28, were simply insufficient. While both players showed positive intent, their efforts paled in comparison to the spectacular six-hitting exhibition previously put on by Priyansh Arya and Cooper Connolly, which had set the tone for the Punjab Kings' victory.

Vyshak Vijaykumar proved to be the standout bowler, delivering a brilliant four-over spell that cost just 30 runs. By expertly mixing his pace and utilizing deceptive variations, he successfully stifled both Marsh and Pant, effectively halting any momentum they hoped to build. Once those key wickets fell, closing out the match became a formality for Shreyas Iyer's side.

Priyansh Arya, Cooper Connolly run riot

Earlier, PBKS delivered a batting masterclass against LSG, posting a record-breaking 254/7. This formidable total, the highest of the IPL 2026 season thus far, was fueled by explosive, near-century performances from Priyansh Arya and Cooper Connolly, who systematically dismantled the LSG bowling attack to set a massive challenge for the visitors.

The innings did not begin as planned for the home side. After being put in to bat, PBKS suffered an immediate setback when in-form opener Prabhsimran Singh was dismissed for a golden duck by LSG pacer Mohammed Shami on the third delivery. However, this early stumble proved to be a mere blip; Priyansh Arya and Cooper Connolly quickly took charge, steadying the ship to reach 26/1 after three overs before accelerating to a robust 63/1 by the end of the powerplay.

The duo continued their aggressive display, with Priyansh Arya reaching a blistering half-century off just 19 balls in the ninth over, marking his second fifty of the season. By the 10th over, PBKS were cruising at 110/1. Shortly thereafter, Connolly matched his partner by bringing up his own fifty off 34 deliveries. The scoring rate escalated further in the 12th over, where the pair plundered 18 runs off Avesh Khan.

The destruction reached its peak in the following over when Arya and Connolly combined to take 32 runs off off-spinner Aiden Markram, hitting five towering sixes. This outburst set a record as the most expensive over for an LSG bowler in IPL history, surpassing the previous high set by Ravi Bishnoi. Following this onslaught, the Kings were in total control at 179/1 after 13 overs.

The massive 182-run partnership was finally broken in the 14th over when Prince Yadav dismissed Cooper Connolly, who departed for a scintillating 87 off 46 balls, an innings laced with eight fours and seven sixes. The momentum shifted in the very next over as Manimaran Siddharth removed Priyansh Arya for a remarkable 93 off 37 balls.

Following the departure of the set batters, PBKS endured a brief collapse. Skipper Shreyas Iyer fell for just five, and Nehal Wadhera followed shortly after, leaving Punjab at 214/5 by the 17th over. Although Marcus Stoinis and Shashank Singh briefly regained the momentum by adding 20 runs in the 19th over, the final over proved costly as they lost both wickets while adding only five runs to the total. Despite these late setbacks, the hosts finished on a massive 254/7, surpassing the previous season high of 250/3 set by Royal Challengers Bengaluru.
