Chennai Super Kings have failed to open their account in the points table even after three matches in the IPL 2026 season. Despite a decent team on paper the Yellow Army is struggling to find their perfect team combination in the tournament.
Ravichandran Ashwin names Chennai Super Kings' missing piece
While chasing a mammoth score of 250 against Royal Challengers Bengaluru at the Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, CSK crumbled at 207, further denting their net run rate.
Recently, Ravichandran Ashwin has named one player who is a missing piece for Chennai in the ongoing tournament, noting that he stabilized the middle order with his explosive yet smart batting in last year's edition.
Ahead of the game against Delhi Capitals, Former India spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has claimed that Dewald Brevis is the player Chennai Super Kings have missed the most, calling him the point of difference in winning and losing.
"Ahead of the season, I predicted CSK to knock on the doors of qualification, but the biggest setback to that has been Dewald Brevis. He is the difference between winning and losing," said Ashwin.
Unfortunately, CSK lost Brevis due to a side strain injury sustained during the pre-season training camp. The South-African batter had played a good role in the middle order for CSK in IPL 2025 after joining the team mid-season as an injury replacement of Gurjapneet Singh.
Dewald Brevis' Chennai Super Kings stats
After coming off as an injury replacement, Dewald Brevis created an instant impact at the middle order with his powerful shot playing ability. In six outings for the Yellow Army, Brevis amassed 225 runs at an average of 37.50 with a great strike rate of 180.
For his valuable contribution, CSK retained the 22-year-old batter for IPL 2026 for a price of Rs 2.2 crore.
Chennai Super Kings' struggle in IPL 2026
Chennai Super Kings are multiple issues in IPL 2026, languishing at the bottom of the points table with three back-to-back losses and a poor net run rate of -2.517. Having MS Dhoni and Dewald Brevis at the sidelines due to injuries is proving to be a big setback for the five-time champions.
