Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) achieved a massive Indian Premier League (IPL) milestone after posting a commanding total of 222 runs against Punjab Kings (PBKS) in their ongoing IPL 2026 clash.
Despite missing regular skipper Rajat Patidar, the defending champions produced another batting masterclass to etch their name deeper into the tournament’s history books.
RCB go past CSK to register historic IPL milestone
After being asked to bat first, RCB recovered quickly from the early dismissal of Jacob Bethell, who managed just 11 runs off seven deliveries. Virat Kohli then anchored the innings brilliantly, stitching together a crucial 76-run stand with Devdutt Padikkal.
Padikkal played an aggressive knock of 45 off 25 balls, while Kohli continued his rich form with 58 off 37 deliveries. Later in the innings, Venkatesh Iyer completely shifted the momentum with a blazing 73 off just 40 balls. Tim David also provided the finishing touch with a rapid 28 off 12 balls as RCB finished with a daunting total of 222.
The score helped RCB create a unique IPL record. This was the Bengaluru franchise’s 44th instance of posting a 200-plus total in men’s T20 cricket, allowing them to surpass Chennai Super Kings (CSK), who previously held the IPL record with 43 such totals.
Only the Indian men’s cricket team now stands ahead of RCB in overall men’s T20 cricket history for most 200-plus scores.

PBKS register unwanted all-time T20 record
While RCB celebrated a historic achievement, Punjab Kings ended up on the wrong side of another unwanted statistic during the chase.
PBKS officially became the team to concede the most 200-plus totals in men’s T20 cricket history. The ongoing match marked the 46th occasion where Punjab allowed the opposition to breach the 200-run mark.
Most 200-plus totals conceded in Men’s T20 cricket:
46 – PBKS
40 – RCB
35 – DC
34 – RR
34 – SRH
33 – Middlesex
Chasing 223 for victory, PBKS suffered a disastrous start after losing Priyansh Arya, Prabhsimran Singh, and skipper Shreyas Iyer cheaply. At the time of writing, Punjab were struggling at 50/3, with Cooper Connolly batting on 28 off 17 balls while Suryansh Shedge was unbeaten on 17 off 10 deliveries.
A defeat in this contest could seriously dent Punjab Kings’ playoff hopes heading into the business end of IPL 2026.
