Mumbai Indians (MI) notched a stunning six-wicket win over Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in their IPL 2026 clash at the Wankhede stadium.
MI's thumping 6-wicket win over LSG
LSG first posted a massive target of 228/5, thanks to Nicholas Pooran's fiery 21-ball 63. In reply, MI rode on Rohit Sharma's blistering 84 and Ryan Rickelton's lightning 83 to complete the chase with eight balls to spare. This win not only ended MI's three-match losing streak but also saved them from getting eliminated. Meanwhile, LSG continued to bite dust at the bottom of the points table as this was their sixth straight defeat in the ongoing season.

Rohit Sharma's roaring 84 in MI's win
Making his first appearance since a hamstring injury sidelined him on April 12, Rohit Sharma looked as sharp as ever from the very first ball. Partnering with Ryan Rickelton—who has been Mumbai’s most consistent performer this season—Rohit celebrated his return with an explosive half-century. The duo dominated the opening ten overs, dismantling the bowling attack to forge a massive 143-run partnership that completely shifted the momentum of the game.
Ryan Rickelton plays second fiddle
Although Rickelton was the first to fall, Rohit continued the assault before eventually departing for a brilliant 84 off 44 deliveries, a knock punctuated by six boundaries and seven towering sixes. This aggressive opening stand served as the perfect foundation for what would become a record-breaking night for the franchise. Despite a brief stumble with the loss of two more wickets, a composed fifth-wicket partnership ensured the team crossed the finish line with six wickets and eight balls to spare, marking the highest successful run chase in Mumbai Indians' history.
Nicholas Pooran's heroics in vain
Earlier, Nicholas Pooran delivered a spectacular batting masterclass at the Wankhede Stadium, powering LSG to a massive total of 228/5. With Hardik Pandya sidelined due to a back spasm, stand-in captain Suryakumar Yadav’s decision to bowl first backfired almost immediately. The home crowd watched in silence as LSG’s top order exploited the batting-friendly conditions to orchestrate a devastating Powerplay assault.
Elevated to the number three position, Pooran was the primary architect of the carnage, racing to a half-century in just 16 deliveries. His aggressive approach steered the visitors to a formidable 90/1 within the first six overs, leaving Mumbai’s seasoned bowling attack searching for answers. Even the elite duo of Jasprit Bumrah and Deepak Chahar struggled to contain him, while Mitchell Marsh provided early support before falling to Corbin Bosch in an attempt to further accelerate the scoring.

While the final overs saw a few highlights for the hosts—most notably debutant Raghu Sharma claiming his maiden IPL wicket—the damage had already been done. Despite a slightly more disciplined finish to the innings, Mumbai Indians were left facing a monumental chase of 229, which they eventually did in style.
