The crucial IPL 2026 Eliminator encounter between Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and Rajasthan Royals (RR) will take place at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Mullanpur, Chandigarh. The stakes couldn't be higher for both franchises, the losing side will bow out of the tournament immediately, while the victor will advance to Qualifier 2 for a grueling showdown against Gujarat Titans (GT) to earn a spot in the grand finale.

Franchise with the Most IPL Eliminator appearance

The Eliminator format was first introduced to the IPL playoffs back in 2011, making its debut with a memorable clash between the Mumbai Indians and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). It has remained a dramatic staple of the tournament ever since, with the most recent edition in 2025 featuring a battle between the Gujarat Titans and the Mumbai Indians.

Historically, across the 15 Eliminator matches played so far in IPL history, four franchises have emerged as the most frequent contenders. Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Mumbai Indians, Sunrisers Hyderabad, and Kolkata Knight Riders share the record for the most appearances, having each featured in this high-pressure match five times.

Interestingly, all five of Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s Eliminator appearances have occurred since 2015. Their history in this particular fixture has come full circle; they registered their very first Eliminator victory against the Rajasthan Royals, yet their most recent outing in the same knockout fixture nine years later came against those very same opponents, resulting in a defeat that ended their tournament run.

It was in IPL 2013 Sunrisers Hyderabad made it to the Eliminator for the first time, where they suffered a defeat at the hands of Rajasthan Royals. Following that initial setback, the franchise became a frequent contender in the high-stakes fixture, featuring in four Eliminator matches between 2016 and 2020. During this competitive stretch, they maintained an even split, emerging victorious in two games and dropping the other two.

Mumbai Indians also share a rich history with this specific playoff format, having featured in three of the first four Eliminators in IPL history. While they clinched a victory in the inaugural 2011 contest, they went on to lose their next two appearances. More recently, Mumbai has reestablished its dominance in the knockout round, appearing in two of the last three Eliminators and emerging victorious on both occasions.

SRH vs RR lock horns for coveted spot in Qualifier 2

Heading into tonight's clash, Sunrisers Hyderabad will look to capitalize on their recent surge after enduring a sluggish start to the tournament. The team successfully built immense momentum during the second half of the season, largely catalyzed by the timely return of their regular skipper, Pat Cummins. His presence over the final seven league-stage matches proved to be the ultimate turning point, as the squad rallied to win five of those crucial encounters.

This late-season resurgence, paired with their regular-season dominance, gives Hyderabad a massive boost of confidence. Having already defeated the Rajasthan Royals twice during the league stage, Cummins and his rejuvenated Sunrisers lineup will head into this high-pressure knockout clash holding a distinct psychological edge over their opponents.
