Chennai Super Kings (CSK) will face the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) for their sixth clash of the ongoing Indian Premier League 2025 at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. CSK failed to get a good start in the IPL 2025, the franchise has managed to win a single clash so far. On the other hand, defending champions KKR won two matches out of their five outings.
India's World Cup winning star Virender Sehwag believes that KKR will be hot favourites to win the clash against CSK.
“I feel KKR. Chennai is not playing the kind of cricket KKR are playing. So I feel the scales will be tilted towards KKR because they have good spinners, and their batters will play spin better. Chennai’s batting hasn’t fired thus far. If the batting fires, something can happen, or else KKR,” he said on Star Sports.
However, Sehwag also believes that there are chances that CSK can also defeat KKR as the hosts will be captained by MS Dhoni.

“A torch has been lit as hope. The crowd that was leaving from this stadium when 24 or 25 runs per over were required will all return because the confidence has come due to Dhoni’s return. The impossible word is in foolish people’s dictionary. It’s possible if MS Dhoni is there,” he observed.
CSK recently faced a huge setback as their regular captain, Ruturaj Gaikwad, has been ruled out of the remainder of the IPL 2025. The franchise reappointed MS Dhoni as their captain ahead of the KKR clash. This will be the first time after 2023 that Dhoni will lead an IPL franchise. MS Dhoni last captained CSK in IPL 2023 final against the Gujarat Titans (GT).
CSK's IPL 2025 performance
CSK have played five IPL matches where the franchise managed to register a single win in the ongoing season, defeating Mumbai Indians (MI) in their tournament's opener clash. After dismal performance in the cash-rich league, the five-time champions are currently ninth on in points table.
