14-year-old batting sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi captured the attention of the cricketing world with his superlative knock for Rajasthan Royals (RR) against Gujarat Titans (GT) in their IPL 2025 clash. The batting prodigy from Bihar, in only his second appearance in the IPL, etched his name in the record books by scoring the fastest century by an Indian player in the tournament's history. His robust innings saw him reach the hundred-run mark in a mere 35 balls, effectively paving the way for an easy victory for RR while chasing 210-run target.
Michael Vaughan feels Vaibhav Suryavanshi will break Sachin Tendulkar's record
Suryavanshi's explosive innings immediately ignited discussions about the young talent, with his batting prowess drawing widespread praise from cricket experts and fans alike. On this the former England captain Michael Vaughan offered his detailed perspective on Suryavanshi's emergence in the current IPL season. Vaughan also considered the potential future of the young batsman, discussing the possibility of him making his debut on the international stage.
Currently, the record for the youngest Indian to debut in men's international cricket is held by Sachin Tendulkar, who played his first Test match against Pakistan in 1989 at the age of 16 years and 205 days. While Suryavanshi is currently 14 years old, Vaughan offered a word of caution. He emphasized that there is no immediate need for India to expedite the teenager's entry into the international cricket arena.
"They got to be very careful. India play that much white-ball cricket that it can overlap with the Test team at times. There will be opportunities. My advice would be, do not rush him. Just let him play," Vaughan told the Club Prairie Pire Podcast.
“IPL is a lot of pressure enough, just let him enjoy for a while. We are all going to see him play for India, it's just a case of whether he will be 14, 15, or 16. I've a feeling he will probably beat Sachin's record to play for India. But I wouldn't be rushing him,” Vaughan added.
Having made his debut in the tournament just last week against the Lucknow Super Giants, the young talent has now featured in a total of four matches. Suryavanshi made a memorable start to his IPL career, remarkably hitting a six off the very first delivery he faced, bowled by Shardul Thakur. In that innings against LSG, he showcased his aggressive intent by scoring a brisk 34 runs off 20 balls, earning accolades from cricket experts for his fearless approach. While his century in the subsequent match against the Gujarat Titans was a phenomenal display of his batting prowess, Suryavanshi couldn't replicate that performance in Rajasthan Royals' most recent game against the Mumbai Indians where he was dismissed for a two-ball duck. He will next be seen in RR's clash against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on May 4.
