Mitchell Starc lauds Axar Patel for his captaincy in IPL 2025.

Delhi Capitals (DC) star speedster Mitchell Starc played an important role in the Axar Patel-led side's win against the Rajasthan Royals (RR) at Arun Jaitley Stadium, New Delhi. DC defeated RR in a super over clash to register their sixth win of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025.

Starc produced his magic not once but twice, nailing blockhole deliveries at will. During the last over of RR's chase, the Samson-led side needed nine in six balls. Starc bowled his yorkers consistently and conceded just eight runs to take the game into a super over, where he gave away only 11, and DC got them in four deliveries. After winning Player of the Match, Starc said that he backed himself to execute his plans.

"Just backed my execution, running in with a clear plan. Sometimes it comes off, a bit of luck goes a long way. It was a fantastic game, happy to get on the right side. I’ve played long enough for everyone to know what I’d do, but if I execute, then I know I’ll get by. A bit of luck goes a long way" said Mitchell Starc in post match presentation.

Starc also questioned RR's strategy of sending batters in a super over. The legendary speedster said that he was surprised to see left-handers come in with his angle.

"Was a bit of a surprise to see left-handers come in with my angle as the ball was tailing back in. Got one wrong there with the side line no-ball, but we had the batting depth then to chase that down" added Starc.

While asked about the team's atmosphere, Starc lauded Axar for leading the franchise well.

"Good mix of youth and experience here. Axar is leading us well. Kuldeep has been fantastic. Stubbs and KL are very experienced as well. We are having a lot of fun, success helps that as well" Starc added.

Coming back to the match, after being asked to bat first, DC scored 188 runs in 20 overs, losing five wickets. While chasing Yashasvi Jaiswal (51 off 27 balls) and Nitish Rana (51 off 28 balls) scored brisk half-centuries to lead RR's charge before an iconic final over by Starc took the game to the super over with the visitors finishing at 188 for four in 20 overs.

DC are currently number one in the IPL 2025 points table with five wins in their six outings of the tournament. The franchise will now face the Gujarat Titans on April 19 at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
