Mumbai Indians' Jasprit Bumrah visited CoE right ahead of the IPL 2026

Bumrah's recent CoE visit has left MI camp on alert mode

Speculation has surfaced regarding the fitness of Jasprit Bumrah as the premier fast bowler checked into the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence just days before the start of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026. While the rest of the Mumbai Indians squad has already kicked off their training camp at the Wankhede Stadium, Bumrah’s absence from the group has raised questions. It remains unconfirmed whether the pace spearhead is managing a specific injury or is simply undergoing a routine medical assessment following a grueling international schedule.

Jasprit Bumrah reports at CoE ahead of IPL 2026

Bumrah’s recent form has been nothing short of historic, particularly during India's triumphant 2026 T20 World Cup campaign. He was the architect of India’s victory in the final held in Ahmedabad, where he recorded his career-best bowling figures to dismantle the opposition. His clinical performance was instrumental in helping the Men in Blue secure their third T20 World Cup title, making them the first nation to reach that milestone.

The Mumbai Indians faithful will be anxiously awaiting an official update, as Bumrah's availability is critical to their quest for a sixth IPL trophy. Given his workload and the high stakes of the upcoming season, his presence at the BCCI's elite facility suggests a cautious approach to his match readiness.

However, Mumbai Indians head coach Mahela Jayawardene previously confirmed that players who participated in the high-stakes T20 World Cup 2026 final have been granted an extended break before joining the team's preseason camp.

“Every year, we aim to get there (win the IPL trophy). But I know it's a long season. So pre-season will start the way we usually start, working hard, getting new boys into the setup. And with our (T20) World Cup guys, we've given them a bit of an extended break so that they will join us next weekend," Jayawardene has earlier said during the closing ceremony of the MI Junior season.

"The overseas guys also flew home, and then they will join us. But they'll have a good one-week training with us before the first game,” he added.

Mumbai Indians' linchpin, Jasprit Bumrah

Bumrah has been a cornerstone of the team since his debut in 2013. His pace and precision have been instrumental in securing all five of Mumbai’s IPL titles. Even during the 2025 season, when the team's batting lineup struggled to find its rhythm in the opening stages, Bumrah remained a reliable force, consistently bailing the side out with disciplined spells and crucial breakthroughs. He finished the previous season with 18 wickets in just 12 matches, but it was his control that truly stood out. He maintained a remarkable economy rate of just 6.67, marking his most efficient season in the league to date.
