Story Highlights:

KL Rahul needs 28 more runs to complete 1,000 runs for Delhi Capitals.

Rahul has a chance to get back the orange cap.

Delhi Capitals (DC) opener KL Rahul needs to score 28 runs in the home clash against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) to create an Indian Premier League (IPL) record. Rahul is 28 runs away from completing 1,000 runs for DC. If he achieves it on May 5, Rahul will become the first batter to score 1,000-plus runs for three different franchises.

While Rahul has represented five franchises – Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings), Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and DC – he has scored 1,000-plus runs for two of them.

Five years after leaving PBKS, he is still their highest run-scorer. From 55 innings, he has 2,548 runs at an average of 56.62 and strike rate of 139.76, including two centuries and 23 fifties.

For LSG, he is their second-highest run-scorer. The former LSG captain has scored 1,410 runs from 38 innings at an average of 41.47 and strike rate of 130.67, including two centuries and 10 fifties.

Currently, Rahul has scored 972 runs from 22 innings at an average of 54 for DC. He has two centuries and six fifties for DC as well. Earlier this season, he also became the first batter to score two or more centuries for three IPL franchises. He also broke the record for highest T20 score by an India batter with an unbeaten 152 against his former franchise PBKS in a losing cause.

Rahul to lead orange cap race again

Rahul is also in the race for orange cap. He is second on the list, seven runs shy of Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) opener Abhishek Sharma. The 34-year-old has scored 433 runs from nine innings at an average of 54.12. However, his strike rate of 185.83 stands out. He has improved his strike rate drastically this season.

DC look to continue new-found momentum

After a hat-trick of defeats, DC beat Rajasthan Royals (RR) by seven wickets to get back to winning ways. They need at least four wins from remaining five games to have a chance of qualifying for playoffs. On the other hand, CSK have registered four wins from their last six games after conceding three defeats in a row. CSK and DC are placed sixth and seventh on the points table respectively.
