Mumbai Indians (MI) bowling coach Paras Mhambrey has confirmed that Rohit Sharma has resumed batting practice in the nets at Ahmedabad. The star batter is currently undergoing rigorous monitoring by head coach Mahela Jayawardene and the team's medical staff to ensure he is fully fit for selection.
MI enjoyed a historic start to their IPL 2026 campaign, breaking a 13-year opening-game drought by successfully chasing down a daunting 220-run target against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). Rohit looked to be in exceptional touch during that victory, however, the team's momentum stalled in subsequent outings. The turning point occurred during a difficult chase against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru, where Rohit sustained a hamstring injury and was forced to retire hurt as the team fell short by 18 runs.

Rohit’s injury subsequently ruled him out of the next two matches, creating a significant void in the MI batting lineup. Quinton de Kock was brought in as his replacement and made an immediate impact, scoring a century in his comeback match for the franchise.
Now, as the team prepares for a high-stakes encounter against Gujarat Titans, Rohit has returned to the nets. The upcoming clash represents a major challenge, as the Titans are currently in excellent form, having secured three consecutive wins as they prepare to head to their home ground. Speaking of Rohit Sharma's return, MI bowling coach Paras Mhambrey revealed,
"Rohit is batting at the nets in Ahmedabad, and he continues to be evaluated by the medical team and Mahela Jayawardene, the head coach."
MI have been eagerly anticipating the return of one of their key assets, Will Jacks. Last season, the English all-rounder played a vital role for the franchise, operating as an off-spin bowling all-rounder while contributing valuable runs from the lower middle order.

Jacks has carried that impressive form into the international arena, delivering high-impact batting performances and claiming crucial wickets for England during the recent ICC T20 World Cup. Despite his proven effectiveness, his absence from the MI playing XI had been a subject of uncertainty, particularly given that no injury concerns were ever reported regarding the all-rounder.
Providing some clarity, MI bowling coach Kieron Pollard has confirmed that Jacks is set to rejoin the squad ahead of the upcoming fixtures. His return is expected to provide a significant boost to the team, further strengthening the batting lineup while offering a reliable spin-bowling option during the critical middle overs.
"Will Jacks is expected to join the squad soon," Mhambrey added.
