The Mumbai Indians (MI) are set to take on the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in match 41 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026, aiming to revive their campaign at their home ground, Wankhede Stadium.
MI have played eight matches so far this season, managing just two wins, and currently sit in the penultimate position on the points table. Their net run rate has also taken a hit, standing at -0.736, which worsened after a heavy 103-run defeat against the Chennai Super Kings on Thursday.
After such underwhelming performances, significant changes could be on the cards for MI’s playing XI tonight, with ace New Zealand pacer Trent Boult likely to make a comeback.
Boult’s match-up magic: Why a comeback could be on the bards
Known for his pace and precision—especially in the powerplay—Trent Boult hasn’t enjoyed the best start to IPL 2026. The 36-year-old has featured in just three matches so far, picking up only one wicket while conceding 110 runs at an economy rate of 12.22 across nine overs.
However, tonight could present a turnaround opportunity for the Kiwi speedster, particularly due to his strong record against SRH star Ishan Kishan, who has been in explosive form this season. Boult has dismissed Kishan three times in eight innings, restricting him to just 44 runs off 49 balls at a strike rate of 89.79 and an average of 14.66.
In the IPL as well, Kishan has struggled against the left-arm pacer, scoring only 33 runs in four innings while being dismissed twice, with a strike rate of 110.00. This matchup could be a key factor in MI’s selection strategy.
Shake-up incoming? Possible changes in MI’s playing XI
Mumbai Indians could ring in a few changes for this crucial clash. Injured Mitchell Santner is likely to make way for English all-rounder Will Jacks.
Additionally, if Boult is drafted back into the XI, he could replace Sherfane Rutherford, who hasn’t been able to make a significant impact with the bat so far this season.
