MI thrashed SRH by four wickets in their IPL 2025 clash

MI chased down the 163-run target with 11 balls to spare

MI vs SRH Today Match Results: Mumbai Indians (MI) rode on Will Jacks' all-round show to thrash Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) by four wickets in Match 33 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 at the Wankhede Stadium on April 17. This victory has propelled Mumbai Indians to a total of 6 points in the IPL 2025 standings, keeping their aspirations for a playoff berth following consecutive wins. Currently, MI occupy the seventh position in the IPL 2025 points table, while Sunrisers Hyderabad are struggling further down in ninth place.

MI down SRH by four wickets

This win came after a disciplined bowling performance by MI, who had opted to field first and successfully restricted the SRH batting lineup to a below-par total of 162 runs for the loss of five wickets.

Chasing the target, the Mumbai Indians were provided with an ideal start by their opening pair of Rohit Sharma, who scored a quickfire 26 runs off 16 balls, and Ryan Rickelton, who contributed 31 runs from 23 deliveries.

The momentum was then carried forward by a crucial partnership between Will Jacks, who scored a valuable 38 runs off 26 balls, and Suryakumar Yadav, who added a brisk 26 runs from just 16 deliveries. This partnership effectively steered the game in MI's favor. The finishing touches were provided by Hardik Pandya, who smashed a quick 21 runs off 9 balls, and Tilak Verma, who contributed 21 runs from 17 deliveries, ensuring that Mumbai Indians comfortably crossed the finish line. Despite a commendable bowling effort from Sunrisers Hyderabad's skipper Pat Cummins, who took 3 wickets for 26 runs in his four overs, his efforts ultimately went in vain as MI sealed the win. This was SRH's fifth defeat in the ongoing IPL 2025.

MI will next face Chennai Super Kings on April 20 at the Wankhede stadium while SRH will lock horns with Hardik Pandya's brigade on April 23 at the Rajiv Gandhi International stadium.

Jasprit Bumrah, Will Jacks keep SRH batters in check

Earlier, exceptional bowling performances from Will Jacks and Jasprit Bumrah helped MI restrict SRH for just 162/5. Despite establishing a solid 59-run partnership for the opening wicket, SRH's scoring rate remained uncharacteristically subdued compared to their usual explosive standards. Notably, both Travis Head, who scored 28 runs, and Nitish Kumar Reddy, who contributed 19, found it challenging to maintain a strike rate exceeding 100 during their innings.

SRH's opening pair of Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head began cautiously, accumulating only 29 runs in the initial four overs. However, in the fifth over, Abhishek injected some momentum into the innings by hitting Deepak Chahar for three consecutive boundaries. At the conclusion of the powerplay, after six overs, SRH stood at 46 without any loss, with Abhishek unbeaten on 36 and Head on 14. Head's strike rate at this stage remained below 100. A boundary courtesy of a two-bounce shot from Travis Head eventually propelled SRH to the 50-run mark in 6.3 overs.

MI secured their first breakthrough when substitute fielder Raj Angad Bawa executed a sharp, low catch at sweeper cover, providing captain Hardik Pandya with the wicket of the well-set Abhishek Sharma. Sharma was dismissed for a score of 40 runs off 28 deliveries, which included seven boundaries. SRH's score stood at 59 runs for the loss of one wicket in 7.3 overs. Next to depart was Ishan Kishan, who was facing his former team at his familiar home ground but continued to struggle with his batting form. His brief innings came to an end after scoring just 2 runs, as he was stumped by Ryan Rickelton off the bowling of Will Jacks. With Kishan's dismissal, SRH's score progressed to 68 runs for the loss of two wickets in 8.4 overs.

At the midway point of the innings, after ten overs had been bowled, SRH had scored 75 runs, having lost two wickets. The batsmen at the crease were Nitish Kumar Reddy, who was unbeaten on 3 runs, and Travis Head, who was not out on 25.

Travis Head's attempt to play a straight shot resulted in his dismissal for 28 runs, which came off 29 deliveries. Mitchell Santner took a smart catch to account for Head's wicket. This marked Will Jacks' second scalp of the innings, and SRH's innings faltered further, slipping to 82 runs for the loss of three wickets in 11.1 overs.

Despite the presence of power-hitters Heinrich Klaasen and Nitish Kumar Reddy at the crease, the Sunrisers Hyderabad's run rate continued to be sluggish. A boundary struck by Klaasen eventually brought up the 100-run mark for SRH in 14.2 overs. After 15 overs of play, SRH's score stood at 105 runs for the loss of three wickets, with Klaasen unbeaten on 10 and Nitish not out on 17. The duo found it challenging to score freely against the disciplined pace bowling attack of Mumbai Indians, comprising Jasprit Bumrah, Hardik Pandya, and Trent Boult.

A well-judged catch by Tilak Varma positioned at long-on provided Trent Boult with his first wicket, dismissing Nitish Kumar Reddy for 19 runs off 21 deliveries. At this stage, the Sunrisers Hyderabad's score stood at 113 runs for the loss of four wickets in 16.4 overs.

In the 18th over of the innings, Heinrich Klaasen managed to inject some much-needed momentum into SRH's scoring rate, hitting Deepak Chahar for two boundaries and two towering sixes, resulting in a significant 21 runs being added to the total. However, his aggressive innings was short-lived as he was bowled by Jasprit Bumrah in the subsequent over. Klaasen departed after scoring a valuable 37 runs off 28 balls, which included three fours and two sixes. Following his dismissal, SRH's score was 136 runs for the loss of five wickets in 18.1 overs.

In the final over of the innings, Aniket Verma provided a late surge for Sunrisers Hyderabad, smashing three sixes and accumulating 22 crucial runs off the bowling of Hardik Pandya. This late flurry helped SRH reach a final total of 162 runs for the loss of five wickets at the end of their 20 overs. Aniket Verma remained unbeaten on 18 runs, while captain Pat Cummins was not out on 8 runs. For MI, Will Jacks emerged as the most successful bowler, claiming two wickets while conceding a mere 14 runs in his three overs. Bumrah delivered a typically economical spell, bowling four overs for just 21 runs and picking up one important wicket. Captain Hardik Pandya also contributed with a single wicket, although he conceded 42 runs in his four-over quota.
