Shubman Gill lashed out at GT's poor fielding after painful loss to MI

Shubman Gill rued Gujarat Titans' (GT) heartbreaking 20-run defeat against Mumbai Indians (MI) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 Eliminator clash at the New PCA stadium in Mullanpur which ended their campaign in the season. With this win, Hardik Pandya's MI secured their spot in the IPL 2025 Qualifier 2 where they will face Punjab Kings (PBKS) for a spot in final with Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB).

While chasing a daunting target of 229 runs, Gujarat Titans put up a strong fight, spearheaded by the in-form B Sai Sudharsan, who scored a fighting 80 runs off 49 balls which was decorated with 10 fours and a six. Washington Sundar too chipped in with a quickfire 48 runs off 24 balls. However, despite their efforts, they could only manage 208 for six within their allotted 20 overs to sign off the IPL 2025.

Shubman Gill slams GT's sloppy fielding

MI will now face the Punjab Kings in Qualifier 2 in Ahmedabad on June 1. The foundation of MI's colossal total of 228/5 was laid by former skipper Rohit Sharma, who scored a brilliant 81 runs off 50 balls, well-supported by Suryakumar Yadav's 33 runs. For Gujarat Titans, Prasidh Krishna and R Sai Kishore were the most successful bowlers, each picking up two wickets.

Meanwhile, Shubman Gill blamed GT's sloppy fielding which cost them big in the crucial game. GT's shoddy fielding gave reprieve to Suryakumar Yadav when he was batting at 25 and Rohit Sharma at the scores of 3 and 12. Both the batters ended up scoring big which eventually hurt GT.

"Last three or four overs didn't go our way, but still a very good game of cricket. Not easy when we drop three sitters, especially in the powerplay. Not easy for the bowlers to control. The message was simple: just play the game you want to play. The goal was the same for both [Sai Sudharsan and Washington]... Lot of positives for us. Last two or three games didn't go our way, but credit to all the players - especially Sai; he was terrific. I think 210 was par on this pitch," Shubman Gill said at the post-match press conference.
