Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) captain Pat Cummins has become seventh captain in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 to be fined for maintaining slow over rate. Cummins has been fined Rs 12 lakh as it was his first offence of the season.

SRH took one hour and 51 minutes (approximately) to complete the first innings as they bowled 18 overs of pace.

List of captains fined for maintaining slow over rate in IPL 2026

Before Cummins, Delhi Capitals’ (DC) Axar Patel, Kolkata Knight Riders' (KKR) Ajinkya Rahane, Mumbai Indians' (MI) Hardik Pandya, Chennai Super Kings' (CSK) Ruturaj Gaikwad, Gujarat Titans' (GT) Shubman Gill, Punjab Kings' (PBKS) Shreyas Iyer have been fined for maintaining slow over rate as well. Iyer is the only captain who has faced the sanction twice for not completing the innings in stipulated time.

SRH register their lowest IPL score

Cummins was slapped with a fine after his team's 82-run loss to Gill's GT at Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad. A happy hunting ground for Cummins, Travis Head, turned out to be the other way around. GT posted 168/5 on a tacky wicket. SRH suffered a batting collapse as Kagiso Rabada, Jason Holder struck thrice with Mohammed Siraj and Prasidh Krishna doing their bit as well.

This was SRH's lowest score in IPL history, surpassing their 96 all out against Mumbai Indians (MI) in IPL 2019.

Cummins chose not to blame the batters as they were bowled out for 86. He feels that it is a blip and backed the batting lineup to come good in the next couple of games.

“Our batting order's been fantastic. So I don't think we need to read it too far into today. I think all four of our top four have over 400 runs. So, the guys are going really well. This happens in T20 cricket. So we go to a couple of venues that we know quite well. So, take some confidence into that,” Cummins said in the post-match presentation.

SRH alive in playoffs despite crushing defeat

Despite the defeat, SRH are placed third on the points table with seven wins from 12 games. They will head to Chennai and face CSK on May 18. Then, they will play Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) at home on May 22.
