Punjab Kings (PBKS) suffered a massive setback midway through their Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 match against Rajasthan Royals (RR) at the Jaipur's Sawai Man Singh stadium on May 18. Shreyas Iyer's injury comes as a major blow for PBKS

Shreyas Iyer displayed resilience with a determined knock against RR. Even while reportedly nursing an injury, the captain chipped in with a knock that helped put Punjab in a strong position after the early loss of two wickets.

Shreyas Iyer suffered an injury to his index finger during a training session the previous night. Despite the pain, the batter was resolute in his decision to play in the vital match and walked out to bat for his team.

Battling through his finger injury, Shreyas Iyer came to the crease at number five when PBKS were struggling at 34 for three. Despite the discomfort, PBKS batter showed glimpses of his ability, playing some impressive shots that helped his team regain momentum. He forged a vital partnership with Nehal Wadhera, who also scored a half-century.

Together, Shreyas Iyer and Nehal Wadhera contributed a crucial 67 runs for the fourth wicket. The Punjab Kings captain, visibly playing through pain, ensured he continued to play his shots, putting significant pressure on the Rajasthan Royals' bowling attack with his aggressive stroke play.

Iyer scored 30 runs from 25 balls, maintaining a strike rate of 120 and hitting five boundaries during his time at the crease. His dismissal marked the fall of PBKS' fourth wicket with the score at 101.

The star batter has been a consistent performer with the bat in the current IPL 2025 season. The 30-year-old batter is his team's second-highest run-scorer in the tournament, having amassed 435 runs at an average of approximately 49 across 12 matches.

PBKS ended up posting a colossal total of 219/5 riding on brilliant fifties from Nehal Wadhera (70) and Shashank Singh (59).

The ongoing fixture against RR holds immense significance for PBKS, as they stand on the cusp of qualifying for the playoffs. A win in this match would be a substantial step towards securing their place in the knockout stage of the tournament.

Currently positioned third on the IPL points table, PBKS have secured wins in 7 out of the 11 matches they have contested so far.
