Ignored India batter Prithvi Shaw is all set to make a return to the IPL after being signed by the Delhi Capitals (DC) in the mini-auction on Tuesday. After going unsold in the first, Shaw was eventually brought in by his former team during the final accelerated round for his base price of INR 75 lakh. The 26-year-old had previously played for the franchise from IPL 2018 to 2024, but wasn't able to find a new team after being released by them ahead of the IPL 2025 auction.
Shaw has turned out to be impressive in the domestic tournaments for Maharashtra. He was even handed the team's leadership duties for the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT) and even though the team failed to qualify for the super league under him, he did perfform well with the bat and hit two half-centuries in 7 games.
Shaw posts heartfelt message
After being signed by DC at the IPL 2026 auction, Shaw took to Instagram and reposted the franchise's post about welcoming him back into the team. He also left a short 4-word message which showed how much it means for him to return to the side where he started his IPL career.
"Back to my family," Shaw wrote on his Instagram story.
Shaw's numbers in IPL
Shaw has so far played a total of 79 matches in the IPL for DC and has got 1892 runs under his name so far. Though he hasn't ever reached triple figurees, he has managed to hit an impressive 14 half-centuries in the tournament and has played several key knocks for the team. Though his average of 23.94 may be concerning, but his strike-rate of 147.46 shows that he can succeed in the IPL like he has done previously. It remains to be seen if Shaw will be able to deliver in IPL 2026.
