Shastri flags “mental fatigue” as key reason behind Bumrah’s dip in form.

Bumrah endures worst IPL season, picking just 3 wickets in 10 matches.

After a series of losses, Mumbai Indians (MI) finally clinched a win in the ongoing IPL 2026, defeating Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) by six-wickets on Monday, May 4 at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. However, Jasprit Bumrah's form still remained a big concern for the Mumbai-based side, as the star pacer ended the game with 0/45 in four overs.

Big concern for Mumbai Indians

Former India coach Ravi Shastri has assessed mental fatigue as one of the key factors behind dip in Bumrah's bowling form. During commentary in yesterday's game, Shastri noted that Bumrah had a tough period of 12 months, during which India won Asia Cup and ICC T20 World Cup.

"Bumrah has entered this IPL off the back of a heavy workload with the Indian team over the last 12 months. His struggles are not just physical. Mental fatigue is a big reason. Mumbai Indians need to look after him. Over the next two years, there is a packed schedule, multiple Test series and the 50-over World Cup are coming up. So, his fitness and workload will have to be managed very carefully," said Shastri.

Jasprit Bumrah's underwhelming performances in IPL 2026

In the ongoing IPL 2026, the star India speedster is seriously struggling for consistently taking breakthroughs, managing only three wickets after playing 10 matches for MI, at an economy rate of 8.809 and a bowling average of 109.67.

This year is a big surprise as it turns out to be Bumrah's worst IPL campaigns since making his debut. He is relying heavily on the slower balls, which is not Bumrah's typical trait.

Next challenge for Mumbai Indians

After claiming third win of the season, MI still stands at the ninth place with six points after playing nine matches (three wins and seven losses) at a net run rate of -0.649. Now, they will turn their focus to prepare for their upcoming game against Royal Challengers Bengaluru on Sunday, May 10 at the Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Cricket Stadium in New Raipur.
