RCB appoint Mumbai head coach as fast bowling coach days ahead of IPL 2025 mega auction

Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) have appointed Mumbai state team's head coach Omkar Salvi as their fast-bowling coach for the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. The news comes days ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

Under Salvi, Ajinkya Rahane-led Mumbai won the Irani Cup 2025. Earlier, they also won the Ranji Trophy 2023-24. His tenure with Mumbai will come to an end in March 2025 ahead of the next edition. 

Earlier, Salvi was in Kolkata Knight Riders' (KKR) coaching staff. He worked with former KKR captain Dinesh Karthik who is currently the mentor and batting coach of RCB after announcing his retirement from IPL. 

Salvi's domestic careeer as fast bowler

Salvi has played just one List A game for Railways in 2025 where he took one wicket for 36 runs in six overs.

RCB's players retained, RTM's available and purse left

Ahead of IPL 2025 mega auction, RCB retained three players and have Rs 83 crore left in their purse. They retained their former skipper Virat Kohli for Rs 21 crore alongside Rajat Patidar (Rs 11 crore) and uncapped left-arm paecr Yash Dayal (Rs 5 crore). They have three Right to Match (RTM) cards. They can either bagged one capped player and two capped players or three capped players.

Prominent players that can be reacquired

RCB can use RTM cards for the likes of Mohammed Siraj, Glenn Maxwell, Faf du Plessis, Akash Deep, Lockie Ferguson or Alzarri Joseph. 

The mega auction will take place in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia on November 23 and 24. 

Captaincy candidate

RCB are likely to go all out for their former player KL Rahul who was released by Lucknow Super Giants (LSG). Rahul is open to the idea of homecoming too. The wicketkeeper-batter has opted for a base price of Rs 2 crore.
