Yash Dayal wins it for RCB

Yash Dayal was tasked with defending 15 runs in the final over and successfully thwarted CSK from achieving the target despite fighting knocks from Ayush Mhatre (94) and Ravindra Jadeja (77) while chasing 213/5.

With this win RCB rocketed to top of the IPL 2025 points table with 16 points in 11 matches, while CSK continue to hit the rock bottom.

Romario Shepherd's late blitz, Virat Kohli's fifty steer RCB to big total

Initially facing the prospect of being restricted to a modest total, RCB witnessed a dramatic turnaround, propelled by a sensational late onslaught from Romario Shepherd, ultimately reaching 213/5 in their allotted 20 overs. While CSK bowlers exhibited control and precision during the middle overs, they faltered in the crucial final phase of the innings. The opening pair of Jacob Bethell and Virat Kohli provided a strong start, contributing 97 runs in 9.5 overs. However, their subsequent dismissals temporarily curbed the scoring momentum. Virat Kohli played a blistering innings, scoring 62 runs off just 33 deliveries, which included 5 boundaries and 5 towering sixes. Jacob Bethell also made a significant contribution with 55 runs from 33 balls, hitting 8 fours and 2 sixes. In contrast, the middle-order batsmen, Devdutt Padikkal (17 off 15), Rajat Patidar (11 off 15), and Jitesh Sharma (7 off 8), struggled to maintain the scoring rate. Matheesha Pathirana, who had been somewhat inconsistent for CSK, found his rhythm in this match, picking up three wickets while conceding 36 runs in his four-over spell. The turning point of the innings was Romario Shepherd's explosive hitting, particularly in the 19th over bowled by Khaleel Ahmed, where he smashed 33 runs. Overall, Shepherd remained unbeaten on a whirlwind 53 runs off a mere 14 deliveries, decorated with 6 sixes and 4 fours. His remarkable innings came at an astonishing strike rate of 378.57, completely altering the complexion of the game.

Ayush Mhatre's 94-run knock in vain

In a dramatic turn of events while chasing a target of 214 runs, Chennai Super Kings faltered in the final three overs, ultimately failing to score the required 35 runs. CSK appeared to be in a commanding position heading into the death overs, largely due to a remarkable innings played by the 17-year-old Ayush Mhatre, who blazed his way to 94 runs off just 48 deliveries, spearheading CSK's chase for the majority of the game. However, following Mhatre's dismissal, CSK's batting order collapsed, despite the presence of experienced campaigners Ravindra Jadeja and MS Dhoni at the crease.

With 15 runs needed for victory in the final over, and the formidable duo of Dhoni and Jadeja at the crease, the odds seemed to favor CSK. However, on the second ball of the over, Yash Dayal delivered a perfectly executed yorker that trapped Dhoni leg-before-wicket, turning the tide slightly in RCB's favor. Just when RCB seemed to have the upper hand, Dayal bowled a waist-high full toss to the new batsman, Shivam Dube, who promptly dispatched it for a massive six, sending alarm bells ringing in the RCB camp.

With CSK now needing just 6 runs off the final three balls, Dayal once again showcased his composure under pressure, reminiscent of his heroics in 2024. This marked the second instance since joining the franchise that Dayal had bowled a phenomenal final over against the likes of MS Dhoni and Ravindra Jadeja at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, securing crucial victories for his team. Despite being hit for a towering six on the third ball of the final over by Shivam Dube, Dayal maintained his focus and executed his deliveries with clinical precision, ultimately restricting CSK to 211 runs and securing a thrilling victory for RCB.
