The IPL 2025 Qualifier 2 clash between the Punjab Kings (PBKS) and the Mumbai Indians (MI) has gotten delayed due to heavy rain at the Narendra Modi stadium in Ahmedabad. With the rain being persistent, there are chances that the match can get abandoned without a single ball being bowled.
However, the question that arises in this situation is that which team will qualify for the final and face the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) if the match does get washed out.
PBKS will go through if the match gets washed out
The team that will go through in such a situation is PBKS as they finished the league stage at the top of the IPL points table, while on the other hand, MI finished on the fourth place.
The Punjab-based franchise have so far had a terrific season as they topped the league stage with 19 points from 14 matches. Though RCB finished with the exact same points tally, they had an inferior net run-rate to Shreyas Iyer and Co., leading to them finishing second on the IPL standings.
On the other hand, the Mumbai-based franchise threw away their chance of finishing in the top two by losing their last match of the league stage against PBKS. This lead to MI capping off the league stage with 16 points from 14 matches.
That defeat to PBKS can prove to be quite costly for MI as they can now get knocked out of the tournament without even a single ball being played in the match.
The cut-off time for a full 20-over match is 9:40 PM. If the match doesn't begin within the stipulated time, the overs will start getting reduced. If the match doesn't commence until 11:56 PM then a Super Over will be contested in order to decide the winner. However, if even conducting of the Super Over isn't feasible, then the match will ultimately get abandoned and PBKS will go on to face RCB in the final on June 3 at the same venue.
