Story Highlights:

Delhi Capitals defeated LSG by six wickets.

Sameer Rizvi played an unbeaten 70 not out vs LSG.

Sameer Rizvi's unbeaten half-century and a brilliant stand with Tristan Stubbs helped Delhi Capitals (DC) to register a comfortable six-wicket win over Lucknow Super Giants in the fifth match of IPL 2026. Chasing a target of 142 runs, Delhi reached the total with 17 balls to spare. Rizvi played a match-winning knock of 70 not out off 47 balls, while Stubbs supported him well with an unbeaten 39. The two added 119 runs together and completely turned the game around.

DC's chase

While chasing, DC failed to get a good start as LSG’s fast bowlers struck early and reduced them to 26 for four. KL Rahul was dismissed on a golden duck by veteran speedster Mohammed Shami. Nitish Rana scored 15 but looked under pressure before getting out to Mohsin Khan. Prince Yadav then removed Pathum Nissanka (1) and Axar Patel (0) in the same over, putting Delhi in serious trouble.

At that point, Sameer Rizvi came in as an Impact Player and, along with Stubbs, steadied the innings. They took their time at first but gradually built confidence. Once settled, both batters started playing freely. Rizvi, in particular, took charge and played attacking shots, slowly taking the match away from Lucknow.

Lucknow's innings

Earlier in the match, Lucknow Super Giants had a tough outing with the bat. After losing the toss, they decided to bat first and tried a new opening combination with captain Rishabh Pant and Mitchell Marsh. However, the move did not work. Pant was unlucky to be run out for 7 after a straight drive from Marsh deflected off Mukesh Kumar’s hand and hit the stumps while Pant was out of his crease.

Aiden Markram scored 11 before being bowled by Axar Patel, while Ayush Badoni was dismissed without scoring by T Natarajan. Nicholas Pooran could only manage 8 runs. Marsh looked in good touch and scored 35 runs with three sixes and two fours, but he was eventually caught while trying to hit Kuldeep Yadav for a big shot.

Abdul Samad and Mukul Choudhary (14) tried to rebuild the innings and took the score past 100. However, Kuldeep struck again to dismiss Mukul. Samad played a useful knock of 36 runs off 25 balls, including three fours and a six, before getting out.

Lucknow’s innings ended at 18.4 overs, as they failed to play out the full 20 overs. Almost all Delhi bowlers chipped in with wickets, except Mukesh Kumar and Vipraj Nigam.

In the end, it was Sameer Rizvi’s calm and confident innings, along with Stubbs’ support, that helped Delhi Capitals pull off a strong comeback win.
