Story Highlights:

The toss was conducted twice after the match referee failed to clearly hear Riyan Parag's call in the first attempt.

Despite Shubman Gill appearing unhappy with the decision, RR won the re-toss and chose to bat first.

Gujarat Titans (GT) are playing against Rajasthan Royals (RR) in their Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 Qualifier 2 fixture on Friday, May 29 at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Mullanpur. However, a controversy erupted even before play was started.

Confusion erupts at toss

The toss had to be conducted twice because of an unusual mix-up. In the first attempt, GT skipper Shubman Gill flipped the coin while RR captain Riyan Parag called for heads. The coin, however, landed on tails. Moments later, the match referee asked for a re-toss after revealing that he had not clearly heard Parag's call during the first attempt, leading to the process repeated.

GT skipper Shubman Gill clearly was not happy with the re-toss, as he clearly won in the first attempt. However, at las RR skipper emerged as winner and opted to bat first against the Shubman Gill-led side in a high-octane game.
