India wicketkeeper batter Sanju Samson who led Rajasthan Royals (RR) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) said that there is speculation on Chennai Super Kings (CSK) star MS Dhoni's Indian Premier League (IPL) career but he wants the legendary wicketkeeper batter to continue in the cash-rich league.
Dhoni is arguably the best captain in the history of the IPL, CSK lifted five titles under his captaincy which is joint most by any team. However, there are speculations that the former CSK skipper will announce his retirement from the IPL as well considering his age.
However, Samson reveals that when people discuss Dhoni's retirement from the IPL. Samson said, "When Dhoni is playing in the IPL, people keep talking about when he is retiring; in my mind, I am like "thoda aur bhaiya".
Again as the IPL 2025 is coming up there are speculations that the upcoming edition will be last for Dhoni will be last for him as a player. Ahead of the 2025 season, the former India captain was retained as an uncapped player by CSK at Rs 4 crore. IPL had introduced a new rule ahead of last year's auction, allowing franchises to retain players in the uncapped category if they have not played international cricket for five years.
Since his international retirement, Dhoni has only appeared in the IPL. In the 2024 season, he scored 161 runs at a strike rate of 220 and an average of 53.66 after 11 innings, staying unbeaten eight times and fulfilling the role of a finisher for the five-time champions.
CSK will start their IPL 2025 campaign against Mumbai Indians on March 23 at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
