The Mumbai Indians (MI) head coach Mahela Jayawardene revealed that the management will reassess former captain Rohit Sharma's condition in the coming days after the star opener missed the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 clash against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at Ekana Stadium in Lucknow.
MI lost against LSG to record their third defeat of the ongoing season. The franchise has played four matches so far, they managed to win a single clash.

While calling the toss, MI captain Hardik Pandya confirmed that Rohit was not part of the playing XI since he suffered a knee injury during the net session. There is no clarity on the extent of Rohit's injury or his comeback. MI head coach Jayawardene said that Rohit was struggling to put weight on his injured knee after getting a blow in the nets.

"Ro got hit on the knee just in the IT band, he tried to bat yesterday and could not put any weight on it. Again, he came and did a fitness test early today to try and it was discomfort for him to put weight on that, so he felt it was 100% for him to play this game. That's why we thought we will give him a few more days to try and get through that. Unfortunate what happened in the nets," Jayawardene said during the post-match press conference (via ESPN Cricinfo).
Rohit had a forgetful outing in the ongoing IPL so far, the former MI captain 0,8 and 13 in the first three matches, aggregating just 21 runs. His last IPL 2025 outing was against defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) as an impact sub.
Mumbai Indians are currently seventh in the points table tally with two points. The five-time champions will now face Royal Challengers Bengaluru for their fifth clash of the tournament, which will take place on April 7 at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
