Saurashtra's left-arm spinner, Parth Bhut, was the main disruptor for the Rest of India.

On the inaugural day of the Irani Trophy, B. Sai Sudharsan's resilient half-century anchored Rest of India's score to 298 for 8, despite a challenging encounter against Saurashtra's spin attack. Played on a gripping pitch, the day was marked by Sudharsan's standout performance, with his 72 runs from 165 balls steering the RoI’s innings.

Saurashtra's left-arm spinner, Parth Bhut, was the main disruptor for the Rest of India. He secured four wickets (4/85), majorly affecting the top and middle-order. As RoI grappled with the bowling assault, budding prospects Sarfaraz Khan and Yash Dhull, once again, couldn't leave their mark in a crucial game. Their recent form has been a matter of concern, with Dhull's selection in Rest of India raising eyebrows due to his subdued performance this season.

Opting to bat first after winning the toss was an easy decision for the RoI captain, Hanuma Vihari. Given the nature of the pitch at the SCA Stadium, batting in the fourth inning was less preferred. The game started on a promising note for RoI, with openers Sudarshan and Mayank Agarwal laying a solid foundation by posting 69 runs in the initial phase. The pitch was on the batsmen's side until the Saurashtra's left-arm spinner, Dharemendrasinh Jadeja, introduced the first breakthrough, dismissing Agarwal.

Sudarshan's collaboration with Vihari for the second wicket further bolstered RoI's position. However, Bhut's relentless spin soon paid dividends, leading to Vihari's dismissal. Sudarshan, fresh from his English county championship win with Surrey, showed excellent form. His expertise on such pitches, gained from league matches in Tamil Nadu, was evident in his gameplay, featuring a mix of sweeps and drives.

But, just as Sudarshan seemed to be settling in, he fell victim to the Bhut-Mankad partnership. His dismissal initiated a downward spiral for RoI, costing them three wickets for a mere 22 runs. The tail-enders rallied, adding some crucial runs, taking the team's total close to 300. These runs could be pivotal given the deteriorating nature of the pitch.

In conclusion, Day 1 of the Irani Trophy was marked by Sudarshan's exceptional knock, Bhut's incisive bowling, and a pitch that promises more twists and turns in the coming days.
