Caribbean veteran cricketer who is known for his bowling prowess unleashed the batter in him on Saturday (September 17) and clobbered a stunning 41-ball century for India Capitals against Gujarat Titans in the ongoing Legends League Cricket match.
Nurse achieved a rare feat of smashing a century in the Legends League Cricket as he became only the second batter to do so after Naman Ojha. After bringing his century in 41 ball he scored a terrific 43-ball 103 to guide his side post a huge total of 179/7 against Gujarat Titans.
Put to bat first, the Capitals were reeling at 74/6 in 12 overs. But then walked in the monster in the form Nurse after the dismissal of Suhail Sharma at the hands of Graeme Swann.
Nurse started slowly and scored only 21 runs off his first 17 balls. But after he got his eyes in, he threw the kitchen sink at everything and got to his century off 41 deliveries.
In his knock, Nurse smashed eight fours and as many as nine sixes. From being in a precarious position, the Capitals posted a competitive score on the back of Nurse’s stupendous knock at Eden Gardens.
Nurse was also involved in a 64-run stand with Liam Plunkett for the seventh wicket. KP Appanna, Rayad Emrit and Thisara Perera picked up two wickets apiece for the Giants.
Ashok Dinda and Mitchell McClenaghan had off days as they leaked 71 runs off six overs at an economy rate of nearly 12.
As far as Nurse is concerned, in 112 T20s, Nurse scored 715 runs at a strike rate of 117.02 with a top score of 40. He has played 54 ODIs and 13 T20Is for the West Indies from 2011 to 2019.
Meanwhile, chasing a target of 180, Guajrat Titans are going strongly with Kevin O'Brien. O'Brien hit a counter-attacking fifty and will look to take his team across the finishing line. However, Virender Sehwag failed to make an impact and was dismissed in the fourth over by Mitchell Johnson.
