Highlights:

India lost a Test series against New Zealand.

Team India are currently preparing for BGT 2024-25.

India faced a 25-run defeat against New Zealand in the third and final Test in Mumbai, resulting in a 0-3 series loss—India's first home Test whitewash since South Africa's 2-0 victory in the 1999-2000 season. This marks the first time India has been swept 0-3 in a home series.

This defeat adds to India’s tally of five losses in the current World Test Championship cycle, leading to a significant drop in their points percentage (PCT) from 62.82 to 58.33.

As a result, India has fallen to second place in the standings, while reigning champions Australia have reclaimed the top spot with a PCT of 62.50. Team India are currently preparing for their upcoming Test assignment which is Border-Gavaskar Trophy and to qualify for the WTC Final the Men in Blue need to win 4-0 in five Test match series.

Here are the points BCCI will review after India's loss against New Zealand

Coach Gautam Gambhir’s decision making

The  Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) gave a free hand to newly appointed head coach Gautam Gambhir in selection matters and that was against the BCCI rule book.

Strict scrutiny of Virat/Rohit and other seniors in Border Gavaskar trophy

The future of several senior Indian players will be assessed following the tour of Australia, as the BCCI reviews the surprising 0-3 defeat to New Zealand at home. They are considering a structured phase-out policy ahead of the next World Test Championship cycle.

There is a strong possibility that the upcoming five-match Test series against Australia could mark the final series for at least two of the four veterans: Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Ravindra Jadeja, and Ravichandran Ashwin, who are approaching the end of their international careers.

Questions on pitch choices by Indian cricket and management

The pitches in Pune and Mumbai will come under scrutiny, as will the current management's approach to team performance. Reports indicate that during Rahul Dravid's time as head coach, there was an effort to move away from producing extreme turners, as evidenced by the sporting pitches used in the England series earlier this year. In that series, all five Tests lasted at least four days, highlighting a more balanced playing surface. The new support staff under Gautam Gambhir will be asked about their vision for taking the team forward.

Domestic cricket emphasises on senior cricketers as well

Earlier, senior cricketers likes of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma missed the Duleep Trophy because of workload management and now there are reports that the senior players will also feature in domestic cricket. Both Rohit and Kohli were failed to perform in the Test series against New Zealand.

Workload management - exceptional or excuse!

Earlier there were players who put forward the matter of workload management in front of the board and the board has also agreed to those players. But now, there are reports that many players have used it as an excuse for not playing in any format or series. So now, the board will also discuss which players need workload management and who do not.
