IND vs NZ, 3rd ODI: Shubman Gill becomes fastest Indian to four centuries, breaks Shikhar Dhawan's long-standing record

Shubman Gill kept up his great form with yet another exceptional century, his third in four matches, as India piled the pressure on the New Zealand bowlers in the 3rd ODI at the Holkar Stadium in Indore on Tuesday, January 24. In doing so, Gill is also the fastest Indian to score four ODI centuries taking 21 innings to complete this feat and pushing aside the previous record of 24 innings held by Shikhar Dhawan.

Gill's ton included 13 fours and five sixes as the opener set up a massive 212-run partnership with his skipper Rohit Sharma, who scored a century himself to end his three-year drought without a ton in ODI cricket.

Meanwhile, Gill, who also broke Dhawan's record for the fastest to 1000 ODI runs for India when he smashed his double century in the first match of the series, also equalled the record for the most runs scored by a player in a three-match series, with the previous record of 360 being held by Pakistan skipper Babar Azam.
On an exceptional batting pitch, both Gill and Rohit got going early on, smashing the ball across the park. While Rohit got to his half-century with a six off left-arm spinner Mitchell Santner in the 14th over from 41 deliveries, Gill did the same, just with a boundary off the same over to reach his 50 in 33 balls.

After a slight dip in his power hitting, with the mantle being taken up by his skipper as Gill anchored the innings, he upped the ante coming closer to his ton, hitting the Kiwi bowlers across the park.

Gill went on to complete his century in 72 balls, and with yet another boundary.

The opener, in fine form, is now fourth on the overall list for the fewest innings to reach four ODI 100s. He lies below Pakistan's Imam-ul-Haq (9), South Africa's Quinton de Kock (16) and Dennis Amiss (18).
