He became the first batter to record 5 back-to-back ODI fifties against India on Indian soil

Daryl Mitchell created history by becoming the first player to record five consecutive scores of 50 or more in One-Day Internationals against India on their home turf. Daryl Mitchell achieved this mighty milestone during third and final ODI against New Zealand at the Holkar Cricket Stadium in Indore, further cementing Mitchell's reputation as a dominant force against the Men in Blue.

Daryl Mitchell tonks cracking century

Currently ranked as the world’s No. 2 ODI batter, Mitchell entered the crease at No. 4 and delivered a masterclass in composure. Despite early pressure on the New Zealand lineup, he utilised precise timing and calculated shot selection to stabilize the innings. He reached his half-century in the 21st over with a boundary off spinner Kuldeep Yadav, bringing up the mark in just 56 deliveries.

This latest performance is the pinnacle of an extraordinary run of form, following previous scores of 130, 134, 84, and an unbeaten 131. By reaching this landmark, Mitchell has surpassed a legendary group of cricketers—including Chris Gayle, Damien Martyn, Andrew Symonds, and AB de Villiers—who had previously shared the record for four successive 50-plus scores against India in local conditions.

Mitchell took no time to convert his fifty into a well-crafted century. The 34-year-old ended up cracking a solid 137 off 131 balls riding on 15 fours and three sixes. Glenn Phillips too came up with a splendid century to steer New Zealand to a big total. Phillips smashed a blistering 88-ball 106, which was decorated with nine fours and three sixes. By the end of 45 overs, New Zealand were strongly placed at 285/5.
