Vaibhav Sooryavanshi picked up Samiun Basir Ratul's catch

India defeated Bangladesh in Under-19 World Cup 2026 clash.

Young Vaibhav Sooryavanshi is in the form of his life and the batter is showing that he wants to be an all-round, dependable player for India’s Under-19 team. During India's last Under-19 World Cup clash against Bangladesh, the Bihar-born young superstar played a key role in India’s exciting 18-run win over Bangladesh, making an impact not just with the bat but also with an outstanding catch near the boundary at a crucial moment.

When did Vaibhav Suryavanshi pick a brilliant catch on the boundary?

The incident happened during  26th over of Bangladesh’s chase. They were 129 for 5, going after a revised target of 166 under the DLS system. Samiun Basir Ratul hit a high shot towards long-off off Vihaan Malhotra, and it looked like it would sail over the ropes. Sooryavanshi ran in from the boundary, caught the ball while still inside the field, realised his momentum was carrying him out, tossed it up in the air, stepped back in, and completed the catch calmly. It was a smart and well-timed effort.

Many fans compared the catch to Suryakumar Yadav’s famous boundary catch of David Miller in the final over of the 2024 T20 World Cup final against South Africa. While that catch was tougher, Sooryavanshi showed similar awareness and composure under pressure.

How India won the match

After being asked to bat, India failed to get a good start in cloudy skies and lost early wickets as Bangladesh pacer Al Fahad removed captain Ayush Mhatre and Vedant Trivedi quickly. Sooryavanshi then played a careful innings, scoring 72 runs from 67 balls. Abhigyan Kundu held the other end with a steady 80 off 112 balls. Together, they added 62 runs to rebuild the innings.

Fahad caused further damage and finished with five wickets. Rain later reduced the match to 49 overs, and India were eventually bowled out for 238 in 48.4 overs.

Bangladesh's chase

Bangladesh started their chase well despite losing an early wicket. Rifat Beg and captain Azizul Hakim put them ahead of the required rate, reaching 102 for 2 after 20 overs. After another rain break, the target was revised to 165 from 29 overs, and Bangladesh looked in a strong position.

The momentum of the game shifted when Vihaan Malhotra sparked a collapse, picking up four wickets for just 14 runs. Khilan Patel dismissed Hakim for a patient 51, ending Bangladesh’s hopes. The team lost eight wickets for only 40 runs and were bowled out for 146 in 28.3 overs.

This was India’s second win in the tournament, which moved them to the top of Group B.
