Pakistan Super League 2022

Australian all-rounder James Faulkner, who plays for Quetta Gladiators, announced his withdrawal midway from the underway Pakistan Super League League (PSL) and held his franchise & Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) responsible for not honoring a contractual agreement. He accused the PCB and PSL of not releasing his payments and lying to him since the tournament started. Faulkner, who played six matches for the Gladiators this season, had also apologised to the Pakistan cricket fans for withdrawing from the competition.“I apologise to the Pakistan cricket fans. But unfortunately, I’ve had to withdraw from the last 2 matches and leave the @thePSLt20 due to the @TheRealPCB not honouring my contractual agreement/payments. I’ve been here the whole duration, and they have continued to lie to me,” Faulkner tweeted. “It hurts to leave as I wanted to help to get international cricket back in Pakistan as there is so much young talent and the fans are amazing. But the treatment I have received has been a disgrace from the @TheRealPCB and @thePSLt20 I’m sure you all understand my position,” he added. The PCB and Quetta Gladiators, however, said that Faulkner has been paid his money for appearing in the league as per his contractual obligations and added that the Australian will not be picked in the T20 tournament in future. On the contrary, the Pakistani journalist has criticised Faulkner saying that there has never been a single issue with PSL due to non-payment ever.Writing on Twitter Farid Khan said, “Faulkner has been involved in controversies in the past too, I didn’t want to tweet it but I will have to. Faulkner was sent back home this morning, he had broken the chandelier of PC hotel in Lahore too, had thrown his personal belongings in disgust as well.” “There has never been a single issue with PSL due to non-payments EVER. All players are paid 50%-70% in advance and the rest of the payment is released too. PSL has happened every year smoothly and without any issues. The PCB should issue a press release and reveal the real thing,” he added. PCB also quashed Faulkner's accusation and said: "The PCB and Quetta Gladiators have regretfully taken note of Mr James Faulkner's false and misleading accusations and will shortly be released a detailed statement on the matter." Quetta Gladiators face Karachi Kings in their final group match of PSL7 on February 20 but victory alone will not guarantee playoff qualification. They also require Islamabad United to lose their remaining two matches.

But the ugly battle took place once again, as Tanvir returned the offensive gesture after taking Cutting’s catch. Cutting’s innings was comprised of 1 boundary and four sixes. Multan Sultans continued their sensational show in the Pakistan Super League 2021-2022 as they rode on Mohammad Rizwan's captain innings of unbeaten 51 off 42 to sink Islamabad United by six wickets on Sunday (February 20).With the the defending champions Multan has clinched nine victories out of 10 matches. This is the most by any team in the group stage in a single edition of PSL. United elected to bat first after winning the toss, however their batters miserably failed to click, proving captain Asif Ali's decision wrong. United who have had multiple recent injuries to deal with had to field a largely inexperienced side. Debutant Mohammad Huraira (2) was the first to go. Liam Dawson scored 22 off 11 balls (five fours) but his departure with the total at 36 triggered a collapse. PSL: Peshawar Zalmi edge Lahore Qalandars in Super Over drama despite Shaheen Afridi's last over batting blitz

Lahore Qalandars speedster Haris Rauf slapped/pushed his teammate Kamran Ghulam during a celebration in Pakistan Super League (PSL) fixture on February 22. The aggressive action was a result of the dropped catch earlier in the over. Despite the two players making up for it with a hug in the same match, the fast bowler has faced backlash for his behaviour on the field. In the second over of Peshawar Zalmi, Hazratullah Zazai was given a second chance by Ghulam, who dropped a sitter at point. However, the dropped catch did not cost Qalandars as Rauf got rid of him on the fifth ball of the second over. But the celebrations turned wild between Rauf and Ghulam. Later in the match, Ghulam pulled off a run out with direct hit to dismiss Zalmi skipper Wahab Riaz in the 17th over. After Riaz’s dismissal, Rauf went to Ghulam and hugged him, showing there is no love lost between the two. After the high-voltage fixture, as per a report by Cricket Pakistan, match referee Ali Naqvi summoned Rauf. The Pakistan fast bowler was lucky to get away with it ahead of Qalandars’ qualifier clash against Multan Sultans on February 23 at Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore. Tensions were high in the last league clash of PSL 2022. With Umar bowling one wide, the match ended in a tie. However, Riaz held his nerves in the super over and conceded just five runs against Fakhar Zaman and English batter Harry Brook. He is definitely the best who plays conventional shots and shots that you will see normally in Test match cricket, ODI cricket,” Richards was quoted while talking to Geo News. While talking about Babar’s mentality and playing style, Richards said that Babar “tends to be like Muhammad Ali, when he boxes, he jabs and he hurts you.” “What I love about Babar is that you don’t see what he’s doing to you, he doesn’t knock you out. He tends to be like Muhammad Ali, when he boxes, he jabs and he hurts you. He is an individual that just has too much time to play, and it’s a joy,” the 69-year-old former West Indies cricketer added. In the ongoing PSL, Babar has already scored 186 runs, playing four matches. But his side Karachi Kings are yet to find their first win of the tournament after playing four games. The Karachi-based side will face Islamabad United on February 6, in PSL. Richards on SarfarazOn the other hand, Richards also spoke on Quetta Gladiators skipper Sarfaraz Khan. According to Richards, the wicketkeeper-batsman “is more focused on team’s success than individuals.” “He (Sarfaraz) is someone who is more focused on team’s success than individuals. I’ve always liked his spirit and the energy that he brings. I’ve seen him do that on numerous occasions. “I spoke to him earlier today to encourage and to let him know that he’s still a man who can accomplish anything that he wants to accomplish. Because he is an individual that brings a lot of passion and all the stuff that it needs to for you to be successful,” the former West Indies cricketer explained.

The Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2022 kicked off with a one-sided low-scoring encounter where Mohammad Rizwan-led Multan Sultans came out on top. Guided by Rizwan’s sensible unbeaten half-century and Imran Tahir’s economical bowling including three wickets, defending champions won the match by seven wickets with 10 balls to spare. Tahir & other Sultan bowlers dominateRizwan won the toss and opted to field first. Karachi Kings got off to a decent start with Sharjeel Khan hitting big but Babar Azam struggling on the other end. While Azam managed just one boundary in his inning, Sharjeel scored 41 runs off 33 deliveries including three fours and three sixes. In the middle overs, Tahir got some grip and turn from the pitch and got the wicket of Khan who was setting himself for a big score. Azam too followed him back to the dugout in the next over. The Pakistan scored 23 runs at a disappointing strike rate of 79.31. Kings’ batter struggled in middle overs as Afghanistan’s Mohammad Nabi managed just 10 runs off 17 balls and English recruit Tom Lammonby managed just a single on debut. Wicketkeeper-batter Joe Clarke and Lewis Gregory struggled to get boundaries as Kings managed a mediocre first inning total of 124/5. Rizwan anchors run chaseChasing 125, Sultans got off to an ideal start despite the wicket of Shan Masood in the fifth over. Masood scored 26 runs off 18 deliveries. Skipper Rizwan and Shoaib Maqsood did not take many chances in the middle and cruised towards the target. The two shared a 63-run partnership for the second wicket with Maqsood scoring a 31-ball 30. Nabi got two wickets in the 15th over including Maqsood and Rilee Rossouw. But the brace of wickets was a consolation for Kings as Rizwan and Tim David finished the run chase in the penultimate over. David hit a six to get his team over the line in style. Rizwan remained unbeaten for 52 runs off 47 deliveries including five fours and one six. “Credit to the bowlers for the way they restricted after the powerplay. Important thing is to assess the pitch. The ball was gripping. Target was not much. Plan was to finish in 16-17 overs, but Nabi bowled well,” the wicketkeeper-batter said in the post-match presentation.

While defending an 181-run target, once again skipper Shaheen Shah Afridi deployed Mohammad Hafeez early, and he didn't disappoint as he removed the in-form Mohammad Rizwan for 14 runs with the score of 36 runs in four overs. Fakhar who failed with the bat, but was light wire in the field as he ran out Shan Masood with a brilliant direct-hit, and also took a great catch of Aamer Azmat to reduce Multan 46/3. England batsman Will Smeed scored a terrific 60-ball 99 for Quetta Gladiators against Peshawar Zalmi in a Pakistan Super League (PSL) match that was played on February 15 (Tuesday), in Lahore but his brilliant batting display went in vain as his side had to suffer a 24-run defeat eventually. Peshawar's battingEarlier, batting first, Peshawar Zalmi, registered a solid total of 185 runs losing 7 wickets, in 20 overs. Their opening batter Hazratullah Zazai (1 run off 4 balls) had to depart early after he was dismissed by Naseem Shah in the second over of the match. Later, their wicketkeeper Harris Shah (29 runs 17 balls) along with Pakistan veteran batter Shoaib Malik (58 runs off 41 balls) notched a solid partnership of 52 runs off 31 balls to avert the early danger. Later, Malik was a part of another key partnership after he along with Hussain Talat scored 73 runs off 47 deliveries. Talat registered a brilliant half century as he scored 51 runs off 33 balls. His innings was comprised of 6 boundaries and a solitary six. Naseem Shah was again the key figure to dismiss Talat and provide a crucial breakthrough. Later, Ben Cutting scored a quick-fire 36 off just 14 balls to take his side to a defendable total of 185 runs. He smashed 4 sixes and 1 boundary. Pakistan pacer Naseem Shah was on fire with the ball for Gladiators as picked up four wickets conceding just 27 runs in four overs. The run chaseIn reply, Quetta Gladiators side lost their opener Jason Roy (13 runs off 9 balls) in the third over of the match. But their English opener Will Smeed was on fire as he hit 12 boundaries and three sixes and looked set to notch a century. But Smeed’s heroics came to an end in the 18th over of the innings after he was dismissed by Salman Irshad. A poor batting order collapse saw, Gladiators lose five wickets within a span of 32 runs as they could ultimately reach a total of 161 runs losing eight wickets, in 20 overs. For Zalmi, their bowler Usman Qadir scalped three wickets to help his side in registering a 24-run victory.

The ongoing Pakistan Super League (PSL) is turning out to be a horrible outing for the Babar Azam-led Karachi Kings side as they faced their eighth defeat of the tournament after conceding a 7-wicket rout against Multan Sultans, on February 16 (Wednesday), in Lahore. Early dismissalBatting first, Karachi Kings had registered a total of 174 runs losing six wickets. Babar Azam was the first batter to be dismissed after the Karachi Kings skipper scored just 2 runs off 4 balls. A good length delivery bowled by Rumman Raees was not successfully picked by Babar and it resulted in the ball hitting his pads. The umpire had no hesitation in giving him out but the Karachi Kings skipper decided to ask for a review but eventually that was of no use as replays also suggested that ball would go on to smash the stumps. The other opening batsman- Sharjeel Khan (36 runs off 34 balls) and Joe Clarke (40 runs off 29 balls) played a solid partnership of 72 runs off 58 balls and helped their side in thwarting the opposition bowling unit. But their partnership came to an end after English batter Clarke was dismissed by South African spinner Imran Tahir. Tahir’s fuller and slower delivery was wrongly read by Clarke and his mistimed shot went straight to cover. Shan Masood standing inside the ring had a fairly easy catch to take in order to dismiss Clarke. Later, Karachi Kings wicketkeeper Rohail Nazir (21 runs off 12 balls), Mohammad Nabi (21 runs off 15 balls) and Imad Wasim (32 not out 16 balls) displayed a gritty batting show to help their side in reaching a formidable total of 174 runs losing six wickets, in 20 overs. For Multan Sultans, their right-arm fast bowler Shahnawaz Dahani claimed two wickets as Blessing Muzarabani, Khushdil Shah, Tahir and Raees claimed one wicket each. The run chaseIn reply, Multan Sultans had a terrific start as their opening pair registered 100-run partnership. Opening batsmen Shan Masood (45 runs off 41 balls) and skipper Mohammad Rizwan (76 runs off 56 balls) exhibited a brilliant batting show for the Sultans. Later, Pakistan all-rounder Khushdil Shah scored a quick-fire 21 off just 9 balls to help his side in reaching the target. His innings was comprised of 1 boundary and 2 sixes.
