Kane Richardson is a talented fast bowler in South Australia's ranks. At the age of 18, he made his Twenty20 debut in a Big Bash game against Queensland in 2009.

The hard-working lad was a part of Australia's World Cup winning Under-19 team in 2010. In the final, he played a match-winning knock of 44, thereby helping his team to clinch the title. Kane also spent some of his off-season time at Cricket Australia's Centre of Excellence. He continued to play more in the shorter format of the game, impressing with some raw pace and aggressive approach.

In the summer of 2012-13, Kane demonstrated a fine spell of bowling with figures of 6-48 against Queensland, which further led to his inclusion in that year's Big Bash League. After notable displays there, he was called up to Australia's ODI squad, handing him an international debut against Sri Lanka. Kane Richardson was picked by the Pune-based team in the Indian T20 League player auction ahead of season six and later bagged by the Rajasthan team for Rs. 1 crore for the seventh season of the Indian T20 League.

Since Richardson made his debut for the Australian team, his career has been plagued by injuries. Back and hamstring problems were a constant distraction for him while the presence of bowlers like Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood, Pat Cummins and James Pattinson meant that he got very few opportunities to make his mark on the national scene. He is yet to make a Test appearance for the national side which has seen him labelled as a white-ball specialist especially with him having the ability to bowl yorkers at will and outfox the batsmen with his clever variations.

After spending the first six seasons of the BBL with Adelaide Strikers, Richardson decided he wanted a fresh start and signed a new five-year contract with the Melbourne Renegades ahead of BBL 07. In 2018, he was awarded a national contract by Cricket Australia for the 2018–19 season. In May 2019, Kane Richardson was drafted into Australia's ICC World Cup squad as he replaced Jhye Richardson who dislocated his shoulder.

In the Indian T20 League auction 2020, Kane Richardson was bought by the Bangalore-based franchise for Rs. 4 crore. He will be looking to make a mark there with the ICC T20 World Cup coming up which will be held in Australia itself. If he does stay fit and string together a run of matches, he will surely be in contention for the World Cup squad.
