As a teenager, Ravi Rampaul first grabbed eyeballs with some sizzling performances in the 2000 World Under-15 Challenge, followed by some impressive performances for the West Indies Under-19 sides and Trinidad and Tobago.

Rampaul made his ODI debut against Zimbabwe in 2003 and though he continued to remain steady and economical with his performances, the lack of wickets was slowly becoming a cause of concern. Nevertheless, with lack of bowling options, West Indies continued to persist with him but unfortunately for the pacer, in mid-2004, shin splits side-lined him for more than a year.

Rampaul had to wait for three long years to make a return and he impressed straightaway with a four-wicket haul against England in Birmingham in only his second game after his comeback. He was rewarded for his consistent efforts and named in the T20I squad for the 2007 World Twenty20. Thereafter, inconsistency and some mediocre performances meant that he continued to remain in and out of the West Indian side. It took long but he finally scalped his first ODI five-for against India in Chennai in the 2011 ICC World Cup. Later that year, he smashed the record of the highest score by a no.10 batsman in ODIs, scoring 86* against India in Visakhapatnam. Rampaul signed for Bangalore in 2013 for the sixth edition of the Indian T20 League and was again bought back for the following season. A plethora of injuries have restricted his Test career but he remains an integral part of the ODI side. With a neat line and length and brisk pace, he is also a fine exponent of the bouncer and yorker.
